Dammit, I hate when Hoof is right. Or you can try a Subaru Outback or Forester which have a certain cache and are also bulletproof. Older ones pretty cheap but costly to run. Try the Forester XT, it has a 2.5 litre WRX turbo engine but they don't make them any more. Touaregs are huge. Had one when I was working in Prague, nice car but too big for Croydon.

I had heard through the finance company contacts that many disco/ land rovers drivers were trading in for more reliable Sportages and Qashqai's (perhaps an x-Trail for work). Both have excellent spec's but more family than work.

Use carwow [Link] for a new car. Once you have finished building it you get an RRP so let's say its £30,000 it then puts the car out to tender so all the franchises can see what you want. They then check there stock list and see what they have. If franchises have what you want or close to it the bidding war begins. BMW Stoke have the car and will give it to you for £29,000 BMW Aberdeen have the car and will drop it on your driveway with a full tank of diesel for £27,850 BMW Gatwick have a similar design to the one you have chosen but in a different colour and will do it for £27,500 and so on... if you see one you like you make the phone call send the email whatever. Mate of mine got an Audi this way and saved £7000.

I was also offered an excellent discount on an Audi A5 by a dealer 30 miles away but decided not to go down the Audi route
