In most men's heads they see themselves stood over the carcass of a bear they just killed whilst surviving in the wilderness all on their own. Of course, in reality, deprive them of a 2 in 1 shampoo for 2 days and they'd have a meltdown.

2 days? most wouldn't make it overnight unless they got a nice manicure to tide them over.

Now naturists aside (who need to for health & safety's sake) why do so many men using a barbeque feel the need to wear a stupid design apron?

Easy answer to that one. As an avid BBQer, named David, with an artistic friend, the obvious present I was given by him was an apron printed with an image of Michelangelo's David, in all his glory.

Fortunately for me, this was available in XXL, thus ensuring a snug fit.

Returning to the topic, the answer is charcoal/wood. There is no such thing as a 'gas BBQ'. That would just be a cooker in the garden.

there is a compromise, my friend. gas bbq IS better than in the kitchen. it's the equivalent of a HJ versus a BJ. a HJ is nice but a BJ is clearly better, but not everything you would want. that's a slow cooked piece of meat over wood or charcoal. gas is a step up. not 2 steps up but it's a step up.

You should try a decent gas bbq before you make claims like that as you are so wrong.

A few years ago I bought a Weber Q bbq and the food cooked on that did taste exactly like cooking in the over but I then bought a decent gas bbq and the food cooked on that tastes very similar to charcoal cooked meats

ive got a decent webber bbq and love it, if your using gas you may aswell just cook everything in the kitchen and not have a bbq

I've also got a decent Weber bbq but haven't used it for years as I prefer my Leisuregrow gas bbq which is quicker, cleaner and still gives the authentic bbq taste to meat cooked on it

Oil drum Bar b q, with lump wood charcoal, not those horrible briquettes.

I have also just started to add those flavoured wood chips, and they do give the meat a much more intense flavour.

Get it lit, and leave for at least half an hour after the flames have died down.

Gas bar b q, is just plain lazy and you might as well just cook stuff in the oven, and eat it outside.

Agree with all this.

My builder chum built me a double BBQ out of Bricks years ago. It retains the heat brilliantly.

As danny says, only use lumpwood charcoal and wait till the flames die down and glow red before putting any meat on the grill. If necessary use beer to damp down flames from fatty meats/sausages/burgers.

The beauty of the double BBQ is you can have one side cooking and one firing up ready for the next batch.

There is no point having a gas BBQ... you might as well cook in your kitchen.

The answer to your prayers. An electric weber bbq perfect for those with balconies (according to them).

You could of course just get a long extension lead and take the george foreman out there.

I must admit I am now looking at getting two. A normal weber charcoal bbq and also a Q1200 for cooking on the beach/quick one.

To quote Nairb this is surely like getting a hj and bj at the same time. With a four month old and lively 4 year old in the house I have seen neither of these for quite a while!

As I have already mentioned I have a Weber Q220 gas bbq and don't like it much as the food does taste like it's been cooked in the oven
