Being sacked as a football manager can be a highly lucrative career and is one of the few jobs where failing can be more rewarding than succeeding

But he worked for BAE before being a professional footballer, having a Masters in Engineering.

I know someone who played against him when Dowie was playing for Hendon in the 80s.
