Now there's the biggest modern con of all - just get a tv with an optical output socket, buy a cheap lead and run it through your stereo system. We get the most amazing sound that way! That's fine as long as your speakers are equidistant from the left and right side of the TV which many aren't and there are better ways of watching films than via a stereo system anyway as most films are five channels of sound plus LFE which you are down mixing to just two channels. My 50" Pioneer Kuro plasma is about six or seven years old now but I won't change it until either it breaks or else someone brings something out with better picture quality

I can't be arsed with all those speakers and wires everywhere so opted for a Sony system that just enhances the sound to Stereo. It has a decent woofer hidden behind the TV and 2 other speakers I have incorporated into the TV stand/cabinet... looks and sounds the nuts! Much much better than the TV only sound and a must for Glasto style concerts and Blu Ray Films.

Almost anything broadcast in HD comes out in Dolby 5.1, or Dolby stereo at least. On top of all DVDs, Blu Rays, gaming etc.
