It never had the dynamic of something like Facebook. It was a good idea to begin with, but it was a bit static. You'd join up and perhaps spot ( and even contact) a few old school-friends, but after that, for me anyway, nothing seemed to change on the site. Occasionally the odd photo might be added, but most of the same people and messages had been on the site since I signed up 8/9 years ago. I recall they did try and jazz it up a bit a few years ago but inviting people to contribute general memories of things and places, but it never had enough focus to grab people.

I recall they did try and jazz it up a bit a few years ago but inviting people to contribute general memories of things and places, but it never had enough focus to grab people. It had the inherent problem in that you could make contact with nostalgia, but it actually backfired in making that contact develop into a real association - typically with people that you lost contact with for good reason. Where as Facebook allows you to passively explore nostalgia by way of friending, and just stalking them, with Friends Reunited it actually meant real communication. Plus you want to see pictures, you want to see how badly most of these peoples lives have turned out. The problem of friends reunited is that it assumes humans are good. Where in fact what you really wanted to see is how you faired in comparison to people you didn't like turns out. Like the prettiest girl in school who would have nothing to do with you, getting knocked up and having three kids by 21, struggling to make ends meet after her third husband has been put away for domestic violence. That's what makes Facebook more popular, you can passively take glee in how other people have it worse than you, and then pretend to care by ticking like, even though you're secretly happy to see they're worse off than you.

I never had any friends when I was at school or college and I have even fewer now I'm an adult. Waste of money for a total c**t like me. Edited by Part Time James (19 Jan 2016 1.22pm)

Problem is, memories of jobs and school, tend to be rather restricted to being boring, criminal or potential liable / slander. The things that generally make memorable moments at work - happen outside of work, or would likely be grounds for disciplinary actions (or even criminal charges) - and of course there is every chance that the victims don't know about it. As for school, I can't really think of anything that was memorable about being at school, other than bunking off school, fights, who was and wasn't a slag and damaging school property.
