I would like to see a defender come in, as i feel we rely to heavily on Dann and Delaney. Yes we have Brede, but could do with someone to really push Dann & Delaney. I think with those three plus Kelly and Mariappa for depth, we are fine for this season. We will need to look at a new centre half in the summer, but there is no urgent need and this is not the time for buying unless it's vital (which it is in terms of a forward.) I'm with you syd, we have decent cover so defensive acquisitions can wait until the summer when we will get better value and time for new faces to settle in. Dann & Delaney don't need to be pushed - they're playing out of their skins already!

Agreed we probably need a bit more depth with some cover in certain areas, but in the position we are in at the moment i don't think that needs to be addressed until summer. Spot on. One thing to remember is that the transfer market is like any other market; you go into a shop with a shopping list but you never know what you'll see on the stand next to the check-out till. I imagine Pardew is entirely focussed on a striker but that's not to say that if , for instance, Martinez calls him up and says "we're looking to offload Stones" we won't say "yes please." The point being that we may be offered players we didn't know where available at an appealing price, in which case things might change.

I don't believe a word of it. Remember last time when the signings of Sako and Wickham came completely out of the blue. I think we will definitely sign a forward but I would be surprised if Pardew doesn't bring in another defender as well, probably someone young with potential.

We all agree we need a striker but I think we also need a young, hot prospect defender who can A) cover for Dann/Damo and B) that Dann or Damo can take under their wing and make them great, someone like (for example) Jamaal Lascelles.

"But we are looking for an offensive player, a striker-type player, someone who's going to contribute to a goal tally, which is an area we'd like to improve a little bit. I thought we were ready to spend twenty million on an Italian striker. Is this true or bollox? I think you can assume that right now we're pursuing (by which I mean in negotiations) with at least 3 or 4 targets and we will sign the one with whom we can reach agreement with (by which I mean agreement with both the player and their club.) Obviously, those 3 or 4 will have an order so if they all say "yes", we'll go for our first choice. I think Pards probably wasn't overly pressed with the next game being Villa and Wickham being back but I wouldn't be surprised if something was tied up before Man City on Saturday. I would have thought he'd have targeted having someone in for that game and if not, definitely for Spurs at home.
