Yes I remember them well.

No 'Remote controls' in those days. TVs used to be hired from 'DER' or 'Rediffusion' and when they went wrong they used to send out a TV engineer who used to twiddle with large dials and look at the 'Test Card'.And there were those indoor aerials which one used to have to move about to get the best picture.

We had a 9 inch McMillan telly. Remember watching the Lone Ranger on it.

My sister was half way across the Irish Sea before she realised a 12" Murphy was a television set.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

No, which one handed to the smallest person to stand and hold the aerial in the only place and angle that got a reception and not move a muscle until Star Trek or Dr Who had finished.

I have heard about these black and white picture boxes on the wireless.

Not going to get one until they're more popular.

Because white showed up grey on black and white tv, when they showed the series Emergency Ward 10 all the sheets on the bed had to be bright blue to show up as brilliant white on the screen..... same with the doctors' 'white coats'.

Many things got filmed in strange colours to give a decent contrast.

Apparently there are 33 households still using B&W TV's in Croydon still.
