Yes I remember them well. No 'Remote controls' in those days. TVs used to be hired from 'DER' or 'Rediffusion' and when they went wrong they used to send out a TV engineer who used to twiddle with large dials and look at the 'Test Card'.And there were those indoor aerials which one used to have to move about to get the best picture.

I have heard about these black and white picture boxes on the wireless. Not going to get one until they're more popular.

Because white showed up grey on black and white tv, when they showed the series Emergency Ward 10 all the sheets on the bed had to be bright blue to show up as brilliant white on the screen..... same with the doctors' 'white coats'. Many things got filmed in strange colours to give a decent contrast.
A stairway to Heaven and a Highway to Hell give some indication of expected traffic numbers |
