It's similar to the event a couple of years ago when a mosque in York invited the edl in for biscuits, tea and a game of football.
Man is the most insane species. He worships an invisible God and destroys a visible Nature. Unaware that this Nature he’s destroying is this God he’s worshipping. Hubert Reeves |

Fair play to them. That disrespectul b****** James McLean should take note. He forgets that Irish from both sides of the border and the religious divide lost their lives in both world wars and in other conflicts. If he hates the British that much, he should f*** off to another country

I think this thread might have backfired.
Stir the pot? Its more about getting the other side out there to let the pot simmer down, surely. I did a quick google for this story and the papers / websites that carried the stories were: Huffington Post, BBC, The Independent, Telegraph, Meanwhile the Express went for "Disturbing order of British ISIS supporter urging Muslims to SHUN poppies in online edict" The Daily Mail went for "Poppy-burning Muslims plan new 'Hell for Heroes'"

In a previous life I had a lot to do with these guys - they are an incredibly moderate and tolerant 'sect' of Islam and very nice people to boot (recently it was their huge mosque in Morden that was subject to arson)and have enjoyed their hospitality a few times. Funnily enough at one event they honoured all the old soldiers within the room, most of whom were WW2 veterans. They are that tolerant, peaceful and moderate they had mosques bombed in pakistan and other places by Islamist fundamentalists. They are huge charity supporters and give huge amounts at Global level, such as Water Aid as well as in their local community and don't discriminate and keep their charity 'in house'. They even support a rural life centre down in Farnham where they own land that they use for religious festivals. Often see them in places like Morden, Wimbledon etc with 'pop ups' where they seek to change and challenge the perception of Muslims and explain that not all of them are dark age, barking mad, child f*cking, slave taking zealots...but people who just want to integrate and contribute to a better society. They and their youth wing do lots of this type of stuff. Edited by The Sash (31 Oct 2015 11.58am)

I like the subtle discomfort at the fact a positive thread about Muslims is on here.

Bert the Nobhead always mentions the Right Wing newspapers in every post, and it is tedious. I gave £10 to a poppy collector yesterday and we both agreed this story was a lovely development. He showed me a Crescent poppy to give to Muslim donators as well as the more usual Christian Cross. All faiths/religions had serious fatalities in WWI (and subsequent conflicts) and today a new statue will be unveiled for the Sikh fallen/missing. Stop trying to score points by insinuating that I am prejudiced

Hardly a revelation that hatred from the like of Britain First is misdirected. The fact remains that employers have imposed bans to avoid causing offence and that there are many who take offence on behalf of others.

My point was your (some might even say itself smug and tedious?) reaction to what was IMO a perfectly valid and reasonably presented point about the way the press (and especially some sectors of it) determine in a highly selective and partial manner what is or isn't valid to present to their readership as important and/or news.

The first time he presented his left wing views on this board (about 2 years ago?) he majored on the right wing press dominating the minds of the feeble and that we all needed to listen to the BBC, Mirror, Socialist Worker, etc if we wanted to know the real truth. He is still doing it 2 years later and never broadens his argument or even deviates from it. I like debating on here with you and others of a political persuasion alien to mine who can construct a cogent argument that varies in facts and opinions. But no one can liken Bert The Nobhead's constant accusation that we are all sheep being drip fed lies by the Daily Mail etc as an interesting viewpoint.... especially after about the 50th time of reading it. He really needs to change the record. The ironic thing is he chose to do it again on this thread where both left and right agreed!
