I have no choice but to be paid by these prats. The one I am using DASA Consulting, pay whatever they decide and it's never the same even if I put the exact same amounts through each week.

Anyway, does anyone know of any that actually pay you correctly?

I've used Parasol for 10 years - current contract has preferred suppliers and so this time I'm using Simplify. Both are fine, they pay on receipt and I have no complaints.

Can I ask how much they charge a week, if you don't mind saying?

Parasol when I was paid weekly was 27.50 a week and Simplify is 100 a month as the contract is a paid monthly deal.

Ok, thank you

Obviously that's gross - the net amount will depend on your tax rate.

Can you not just set up your own limited company and invoice directly?

Yes - umbrella's are useful in as much as there's virtually no paperwork - but clearly you'd take home more by being ltd.

In a previous job I used Paystream.

I found them ok.

Always got the same pay every week as long as I remembered to send them a photo of my train ticket each week.

In the past I've used a few different Umbrella companies and the only one that actually seemed to provide a service and that I'd recommend were Liberty Bishop. They charged about the same as others, but they also 'admitted when they got it wrong' and also provided some good advice when it came to tax deductions, travel and expenses

My advice though is to use an umbrella company and if you can, go LTD. The difference is noticeable, plus you have more flexibility going forwards. Plus you get to name your own company which is kind of fun.

Now that is a lie

They missed me off the payroll BACS on the Wednesday, and when I noticed on the Thursday, they paid the extra to cover electronic cash transfer.

Plus they always answered my questions, and double checked the answers, and did my tax return for free.

We're stuck in deep; dealing with a sticky mess. But fortunately we're DNA proofed.

Working in recruitment I speak with Umbrella Companies on a weekly basis.

The majority of them are absolutely useless and treat you as a number rather than a customer.

There are two very good companies you good speak to that would recommend very highly.

Both offer umbrella/pay-roll type solutions as well as help setting up and managing the admin side of a limited company.

Feel free to PM for deets.
