It’s sad we don’t see more black people at Palace matches, and even sadder that so many local black people choose to support the Ars* instead.

It’s also a shame we don’t see many Asian people, presumably in general they prefer cricket.

Yet Palace is the club that holds the English football record for staging the game seen by the greatest amount of people, with over 100 million people watching the club debut of Sun Jihai and Fan Zhiyi in China.

As we consider how to grow our fan base and make Palace into the club it should be, it occurs to me we have a fantastic untapped resource. What we do have near to Selhurst is that great metropolis of Croydon, and specifically Lunar House.

New immigrants are forced to come to our town. Many of them come from places where football is popular and will be looking for a local team to support.

Shouldn’t we be making it really easy and attractive to support the mighty Eagles? And when our expatriate fan base grows, hopefully so will our international fan base by extension.

I look forward to having a sklep in the Holmesdale, lots of interesting food choices and a bank of hookah pipes.

Discuss.

top comedy.
well done maples.

there are way more afro-caribbean palace supporters now than ever.
possibly down to, we have blinding black players at present & have always had a top notch player from the community since '70s.
However any further immigrants can feck off-enough already.
(poles mainly)

It's a good job we didn't take take this stance during WW2 then bud? My granddad on my mums side was Polish. He along with many fled their homeland and came here to fight with us.

Well there is a large black population in South Norwood but that has never been reflected at Palace. We have a fan base that is spread far and wide and I don't care who attends as long as we fill the ground every week.

Not sure why the OP is bothered about the colour of supporters.

My point is not about colour, it's about being welcoming to allcomers. It is also about seeing opportunity where others see an excuse for negativity. We should have welcomed earlier generations better. Let's at least welcome the new arrivals in the best possible way and think about how to make it attractive for them to join in with something that gives us so much pleasure. And indeed for us to get extra enjoyment from the differences that they will bring. We are such a vibrant club we can cope with change, unlike some.

I think you will find that there have been many seasons in the past where previous owners would have welcomed anyone to fill the ground.
Why would you want to encourage one particular demographic ? I don't understand. Football is open to all that bring cash to buy tickets. I don't see a better excuse for black people to attend matches that the actual team having a vastly disproportionate number of black players relative to the population which is the case.

It's never easy supporting the Eagles.

We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football.

Not just a colour thing is it. Look at the surrounding areas. You don't see any of the local Eastern Europeans at Palace either so if you're going to be silly at least make it relevant.

Never understood the Arsenal thing. They weren't even good when the 1st generation Caribbean migrants came over and mainstream support was largely post Viv Anderson. I know Wrighty was pretty iconic among black lads my age. I just don't know why they didn't support Palace.

Regarding support from everyone else who isn't English, there's no need to support the local team to fit in anymore with Sky. You just hang out in your own community and watch Man U.

There was a bunch of six or seven of them behind me in the Arthur at the weekend, john.

How can I make this simple for you? We missed the boat with the first immigrant waves. Maybe I should have said Turks, there were loads of them came to South London but I doubt many are Palace fans. Colour is just a red herring.

My point is to build our fan base quickly we could choose to become the most welcoming club to incomers. As other threads bang on and on about, there are lots of them and they probably arrive without a strong allegiance to a London club but with an interest in football.

Or we can choose to make it hard for new people to join our club, just like so many of you do with the HOL. I imagine Guntri tears his hair out with the way new people get hounded off the boards. Maybe we just don't want anyone new to be a Palace fan, after all we do just about fill up Selhurst, maybe that should be enough. Then we can keep out the plastics and the Nigels that everyone despises so much.

Well I don't really know what you would expect a club to do beyond what it has done. Palace is a very welcoming club.
As for the fans sites, I agree with you. The BBS is an appalling site with the same group of people being allowed to boss the site by abusing any newbie they don't agree with. And the Hol although far better, is a little too precious with who and what it allows people to post. Too many red and yellow cards being handed out lately from what I see, and all slanted one way politically speaking. The club has no control over that of course.

This site is just as bad with loads of people ready to abuse anyone who puts an apostrophe in the wrong place and is generally unwelcoming to anyone who dares to have a different opinion to the herd.

Following on from this post, can we make an impassioned plea to all albinos in South London who couldn't give a f*ck about football, but because some twonk on here is desperate to boost attendances any which way he can, to come and support Palace?

Maybe we can attract a wave of them?

Or am I missing the boat?
