I found Idioterne by Lars Von Trier quite thought provoking. A lot of his stuff is. I've watched Antichrist once and it still haunts me.

A lot of these films I've never heard of. They sound like pretentious bender-fodder to me.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

So they are all on your Netflix list now then I assume?

You would like Crash.

You'd get through an entire box of Kleenex watching the film.

I've seen the bulk of his and for me they're really hit & miss.
Breaking the waves, Dogville and Dancer in the dark are all superb.
Nyphomaniac and The Idiots (Idioterne) are well worth seeing. Mostly for the naughty bits.
Melancholia and Antichrist I thought were dreadful.

I thought Breaking the Waves was pretty bleak but not a bad film. I thought The Idiots and Antichrist were amongst the best films I've ever seen (although I'd never watch Antichrist again). I have heard Nymphomaniac is rubbish but I might give it a go if you say it's good. Isn't Dancer in the Dark a sort of musical film?

Nope. B-york does have a little warble in it but it's no way a musical. She actually really good in it - if her accent grates at times (she sounds like a cockney!)

It's bleak - but that's a given with Trier.

I'd say Dogville is his best though.

I'll make sure I watch both. I actually have the DVD of Dancer in the Dark but never watched it. I'm a bit of a closet Bjork fan so I'm sure I'll enjoy it.

Last film I watched that truly left a mental imprint was We Need To Talk About Kevin

It's a slow burner, intriguing and dark as f***.
