Secondly, does anyone really need a fully automatic assault rifle!?

The fact that anyone can buy a gun at a fair and by pass all the checks is just bonkers.

Secondly, does anyone really need a fully automatic assault rifle!?

Nope, although such weapons are fairly well restricted, by comparison. The real question is why would anyone want to own an Assault Rifle at all (or variant there of).

And what does it say about arms manufacturers that they produced a civilian version of the M-16 in order to get around potential restrictions on the ownership of such weapons.

There is no feasible reason to own an assault rifle, or one that's a civilian version that's semi-automatic. No one really hunts with them (they're not accurate enough), and they're not really suited to home defense either.

I have always wondered what leads someone to produce a product for a domestic market, knowing full well it will kill someone most probably in criminal circumstances.

I recall reading about a hollow tip bullet that shatters upon impact so rather than having just one bullet wound, it fragments into 10 pieces which essential makes it so much more lethal.

These are quite common in use with anti-terrorist, hostage rescue and some police forces swat teams (as they reduce the risk to bystanders - the bullet fragments on entry, and is much less likely to exit the body).

I think in the US hollow points (or similar) along with armor piercing rounds are illegal.

Oddly in some states, where firearms are very accessible, body armor is restricted, with moves made to make this less accessible to the public.

How some Americans really views guns is disturbing.

Its worth noting, even the NRA considered the last one to be crazy and pro-gun groups have asked for restaurants to ban people bringing guns into restaurants, even if lawful in the state.

For some dumb reason a lot of Americans still cling to the 2nd Amendment and until someone tells them to grow up and change it, gun crime will never fall.

Put a large amount of guns into a population with few restrictions and you create a problem.

Mental health issues will always give you a reliable number of unnecessary deaths......Guns give an option of taking multiple people with you in a reasonably easy fashion.

This is a fact of life for certain countries. You pick your country you takes your choice.

Some kid has hooked up a pistol to his drone and has been out in the woods with it. Scary indeed. [Link]

Mind you, if this is what some kid can make, imagine what the military already have!

This is the reason why I will never visit America. There are loads of things I would like to see and do in the US but I just wouldn't feel safe.

The you need to grow a pair. The USA is a huge continent. Its like saying you wouldn't visit Edinburgh because of a spate of stabbings in Naples.

America is a wonderful country if you look at it holistically.

The chances are still very low.....It's like anywhere else....You face a larger chance of getting mugged if you are in some places more than others.

You face a larger risk of death getting into your car.
