Someone's been at the transfer rumour generator after hours again...

Quote Willo at 26 Jun 2015 9.47am

The first time I witnessed Williams play was a few years ago when he was playing for Stockport away to MK Dons. I was at the game and my friend seated next to me from the 'World' of football and myself both concluded that he would go far. Martinez signed him from Stockport for I believe £400,000 - what an inspired buy it has turned out to be.

Whenever I read your posts I do it whilst humming Dvorak's Largo/'Boy on Bike' Hovis Advert music.

Boys in the park; jumpers for goalposts...

Used to use the goals in 'Norbury Park' back in the 60s instead of jumpers and got shouted at on more than one occasion by the park keeper storming out of the pavilion !

Being a football journalist at this time of the year must be the best job ever. I bet they are all in the same pub, discussing which transfer rumours to make up next.

Ashley Williams to Palace is nonsense.

Can anyone see him leaving Swansea for us? More than likely on better wages there, chance of European football and appears settled.

I think it entirely likely that Swansea would want to shop Ashley Williams and to try to cash in on a guy that will be 31 as the season starts. Particular at what the papers are quoting at around £12m. This only makes a scintilla of sense for Palace as a desperation play to replace Dann.

31 is not old these days, particularly if you keep yourself in good shape. No reason at all why he shouldn't have 2 or 3 good years left in him.

Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.

More like this who us to replace Dann. ..

No substance whatsoever in Dann being anywhere else next season than Selhurst Park, so Williams would be an excellent partner for him. NEXT

Bring back Brolin

Can't see us spending £12m on a 30 year old defender.

I think the price does seem very high for a 30 year old who probably only has a few years left at the highest level. I think we need a centre back who is a leader and Williams is that so he fulfils our needs. I wonder if they are after either Gayle or Johnny Williams both of whom will not be first team regulars at present. If we were talking one of those and £2-3 million I think this could happen
