many thanks for the sound advice (& kind words.)
greatly appreciated

..where exactly is the growth in the hind leg? sounds like it's going into her body now and that's why he cannot remove all of it...Cancers are a nasty mixture of speeds and spreads, so there is no real way to say exactly how long it will be for pooch, the vet will know more though, through the results of the biopsy of the tumor.

vets removed as much as possible.
in the inner thigh section.
I'm taking her for very short, light walks, but she can only manage a few hundred yards.
(was recommended by vet)
I'm hoping it'll be a case of a few years still, as Cannonball has mentioned.
once again, thanks for everybodys advice.

Kids, tired of being bothered by your pesky parents?
Then leave home, get a job & pay your own bills, while you still know everything.

Hopefully some of the many dog owners on HOL can assist.
We've had some bad news from vets today.
pooch (jackrussell) has had a growth removed from hind leg, few days ago.
Vet has said today its a tumour and couldn't remove all as too far into her.
Obviously its not good, but I'm very inexperienced with pets(she's first dog I've had since I was at school)
I expect some on here have had similar with their dogs, so could you give me a bit of info.
Mainly talking time here,as mrs KD is pretty upset & I'd like to know whats what.
thanks
KD

Hurt me as much to lose my dog after 14 years as it does when i lose human friends, I knew when the time was right.
I still think about him every day and it's been 7 years now. I've had a cat for 4 years now but it isn't the same. Looking at getting another dog after this coming Xmas, can't come soon enough.

By the sounds of it you'll enjoy more the time from now until whenever.

I refuse to believe there are that many people out there that can't spell. Too f**king lazy, that's what I think.

Cancers vary in their treatability and aggression.

Even if all the tumour was removed, there would be no guarantee it wouldn't come back.

Any difficulty walking ATM, is probably due to the fact the dog is still recovering from a fairly big operation.

Now it's just a case of monitoring the dog (with the help of the vet) to see how aggressive the tumour is.
Hopefully the dog will die of old age before the tumour does anything.

Dogs are complete cnts with their unconditional love. 7 years ago I was walking my dog in Sydenham Wells Park. The dog ran up to an elderly man, sitting on a bench, and he started fussing it.

Man: "Lovely dog. Unfortunately, both my wife and dog died earlier this year.

I really miss that dog"

I disengage, I turn the page.
