I used to be ridiculously addicted to FM about 10 years ago, and would often be down the pub watching Soccer Saturday thinking to myself, "I'm sure he signed for so and so" and then remembering the transfer happen in my FM save not in real life.

This plus I'd be at Palace games, and think I'm sure we sold him last season, and wondering why Beckford wasn't playing.

I'm sure there have been threads on Football Manager before so I hope this doesn't cross over, but have any of you ever taken the Football Manager/Championship Manager games a bit too seriously?

I have found myself walking about the house like a bear with a sore head and when my girlfriend asks me why, I realise it was because I've lost two games on the bounce in FM.

I also had an assistant manager in the game that had been with me for ages. I started to think of him as a friend. I looked him up on Google to see if he was a real guy and it turned out he was, at some little non-league club. I almost emailed him to say "Hello mate, it's me, I worked with you at Burgess Hill Town" and then remembered I don't know him, he doesn't know me and none of this is real....

Anyone else done anything as pathetic as this or am I the HOL's biggest loser?!

I'm won't play MMORPGs and FM anymore, because their impact on me is catastrophic. Playing Eve-Online became a second career, I'd get home and spend 8-12 hours in game earning virtual currency from things like mining, trading and running missions - and in war phases would keep a bottle next to the pc rather than risk going to the toilet.

FM was worse.

Fortunately I belong to a running club and enter a lot of races. I've always been able to prioritise the running. Otherwise I'd currently be having my rotten corpse peeled off a sofa after my friends and family realised they hadn't seen me for several weeks.

I was playing on an old version of Football Manager until recently. I checked up on Palace and Keith Millen had been hired as the boss and James McArthur had signed for them. I love when the game crosses over with real life by accident. The database pre-dated Millen ever going anywhere near Palace, although I appreciate he had Palace links that the database probably did know about.

That's normal behaviour. This is exactly what I had hoped this thread would become. A confessional for all us guys that had never admitted these things before. I knew I wasn't alone!

We're all in the same boat here, nothing to be embarrassed about.

That's my one and only attempt at a MMORPG. I played it for about 6 weeks constant (I was out of work so between 6 and 18 hours a day) and was bulding up a nice little settlement. I went out one evening, came home & someone had taken my town over and renamed it 'Mine Now'

Switched it off, never been tempted since.

Yes, I've been playing football manager since champ man 1 back int he early 90's. God I remember I also played the first ever football manager game. It was on the commodore plus 4 and was called football manager I think. Yes it was I just googled it, 1986, my god I'm getting old.

I even used to have 2 pencils went i went to a relatives house, those pencils with the multiple flat sides, write a number on them fro 0 to whatever it went up to (can't remember) and roll one each for each team. Used to play whole seasons. Obviously no management just to see who would win the league.

Back to champ man/footy manager I have probably spent more time on this than doing anything else in my life possibly except sleeping. Sick days at work, used to have different games saved at various friends or relatives houses computers so basically I could just sit there and play the game.

Used to do anything to play, got the xbox version so I could have a quick match or update when the adverts were on between tv programs I liked or the exes soaps.

Can't play nowadays because I value life to much lol. Also maybe I am getting old because it just seems like there are too many features now. I do have a watered down version on my phone that I play on the way to work, but it's just too easy, multiple winners of the premiership and champions league with Weston Super Mare.

Thanks for this thread reminded me of some old memories.

Have to finish by saying my favourite version was Champ Manager Italia, released I think in 90 or 91. Loved that game to bits, still do. May have to dl it.

Why would anyone chose to be a Seagull? The Eagle is a far superior creature.

The Seagull lives under it's damp pier meekly looking out, blinded by the sheer quality of the Eagle's palace.

Love this thread!!

I've also played it since the early 90's (champ man) and as sad as it might sound I've grown up with the game! Each year the new game comes out I take the day off work to play it! The case then sits sits proudly in my DVD rack along with the other years whilst the game cd is permanatley in the laptop!

There's a brilliant documentary/film out called "football manager, an alternative reality" really good and definatley worth a watch if you're an FM addict!

I'm currently in. My 3rd season and sitting 4th in the league after 20 games. Considering Parish is being a tight arsenal with the transfer kitty I think me and the lads are doing a great job!
I even played it in bed last night!

I bloody love this game!

Just firing the laptop up now!!

I used to play a lot! Palace first then when the dates got unrealistic and players were all fake I would start again with a non league team.

I haven't actually played for a couple years, since we did a HOL league a few summers back.. not sure why I'm admitting to this, but once upon a time I had a lady friend staying over and I waited very patiently for her to fall asleep so that I could load my laptop up and complete the signing of Tom Huddlestone.
