And it was "their" considered decision to both offer the Brexit referendum and to act on the result. No it wasn't. It was the result of our current system in which MPs are pressurised by whips to vote with the government, or suffer unpleasant consequences. If a secret vote had been available do you seriously think the result would have been the same? I don't.

I would love to hear your observations on my character. There is no publication date in the dictionary. I’m not telling you when my mother gave it to me as, for all I know, you could be sat in a tin-hut in Nigeria who, inbetween sending out emails asking people for help in transferring vast sums of money into their bank accounts, tries to obtain personal information for fraudulent purposes. Then you are going to be disappointed, because I generally keep my own counsel on such matters. Only in exceptional circumstances do I break that rule. You aren't exceptional. Why would the date of a gift be of any use to a Nigerian scammer? Truly a weird idea. As this particular discussion has gone on long enough to be classified as a Hol filibuster, I think we should leave it there. I suspect everybody else did pages ago.

They seem perfectly capable of secretly planning to get rid of various party leaders so why not?

And have secret votes to decide the new one, whilst publicly supporting someone if they choose to announce a preference. That's what I want to see in parliament too. Abandon the antiquated lobby system and introduce polling machines, or an intranet system, which records votes anonymously.

Others are reluctant to put so much faith in people doing a job which requires no experience or qualifications.

But is a job in which they, or you or I if we did it, have access to, and time to consult, those with experience and qualifications in specialised fields. Which isn't what you and I have now.

You could work out my year of birth as I said it was given to me when I started senior school.

OK, but I wouldn't visit a doctor on those grounds. They could, but ways can be devised to mitigate the potential. For instance should corruption be suspected an independent investigation could be made which had access to the voting record. Such opportunities exist now, via MPs being sponsored by Trades Unions or industry interests. I would ban all such sponsorships.

To prevent the annihilation of the old British nation. To prevent fanatics & bigots taking over. many of those Brits are in graveyards in places like Arnhem. Now remind me again what they were fighting for ? Edited by PalazioVecchio (04 Mar 2023 9.42am)
