We have to keep our energies for the more important issues of surviving this season to be able to re group with much change before the start of next season. We have really hit a wall with this squad now and do nothing with it is going to cost us dearly next season.

Sakho, McCarthy, Benteke, and PVA are all 30 but only used on a rotational basis. The record for most distance covered in a Premier League game was set this year by James Milner. Peak fitness is meant to be between 27 and 29 with peak endurance not reached until 35. An aging squad isn't an excuse for tonights performance with 0 shots on goal.

A couple of seasons old but still a good indicator. Jimmy Mac has clocked up the most milage in a game for us this season at 33. In the article, the Palace player with most miles covered in a game was Max Meyer. Seems like the players are clocking up the miles. One reason for Luka being top in 2019 was lack of rotation. Obviously this doesn't include sprints but it's still the best indicator I could find. Other reasons exist which means stats can be manipulated, but there are only so aren't many ways to creatively manipulated a ratio of distance and time. Conclusion - the way we are set up is a bigger issue than age.

In the last minute of the first half, Tomkins and the others at the back were passing sideways and even backwards as is we were one nil up and wanted to preserve a half time lead, rather than kick up front in the hope of getting a lucky equaliser to go into the break. I have never seen something like that before.

So here we go again ... nothing to play for except our survival in the PL. On last night's showing that’s going to be another tedious struggle.

Nice insult. But what does turgid mean? When used to describe literature Turgid can be used to say writing is boring, complicated or difficult to understand which is also what our football could have been called last night. There are many meanings in the English language for the word Turgid. Just because you googled Turgid and got a couple of different meanings does not make them the only meanings. Now off to school you go sir.

The game plan worked perfectly. The players are complicit in the nature of the defeat, and they follow the manager's instruction. This game was near identical to other recent cup games where we performed abysmally. The idea is to exit the cup and concentrate on the league. Shocking to suggest I know, but once one looks at it from that perspective recent cup performances make sense.

Last night was as bad as I’ve seen this year and it won’t be good for player morale as they badly need a cup run to give them something to play for this season. Roy played a strong enough starting 11 and on a quick look you could say he made the correct decision to play players that haven’t been playing much, but he made an absolute balls of his formation and tactics and then waited till it was too late to make changes. Playing Benteke, Bats and Ayew at the same time was a risk but a risk worth taking nevertheless, but his big mistake was not changing it when he could see it wasn’t working. Riedewald honestly looked like a schoolboy who didn’t know where to stand on a football pitch. He is not a midfielder and I hope that brings an end to people suggesting that he should be starting. He may be a decent player in his best position but he can not play centre midfield. Bats should never have been signed on loan. He is the wrong player for a lot of clubs and he is definitely the wrong player for us. We had most of the ball in the second half and the last 20 minutes was a great chance for us to create some chances and score but Roy decided to just move players all over the shop like you would see in a school playground. It was absolutely embarrassing watching PVA and Eze get in each other’s way in centre midfield and Ayew playing as if he was the only player on the pitch. Wolves were decimated with injuries and that was a brilliant chance to go through to the next round and create some excitement but Roy made a mess of it. I am now firmly in the camp of wanting Roy gone at the end of the season. Edited by EddieMac (09 Jan 2021 9.07am)
