Bit funny when it happens to spurs though
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Can you imagine next week - several clubs send their defenders out with no sleeves to put their arms through on their shirts, the defenders arms being hidden inside the main body of the shirts.... I know that was tongue in cheek but have you ever tried running or jumping with your arms tied to your sides. No, there is only one solution - amputation. The penalty decision against Spurs just now was even more ridiculous (but very funny, obviously).

Bad goalkeeping for their first and a joke of a rule for their second.

Offside offence A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is played or touched by a team-mate is only penalised on becoming involved in active play by: •  interfering with play by playing or touching a ball passed or touched by a team-mate or •  interfering with an opponent by:   preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing the opponent’s line of vision or clearly attempting to play a ball which is close when this action impacts on an opponent or   • making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball or •  gaining an advantage by playing the ball or interfering with an opponent when it has:   • rebounded or been deflected off the goalpost, crossbar, match official or an opponent

Although for handball, I couldn't find the list of interpretations that the TV kept showing at the weekend. I have a feeling that they might be examples of what is a handball, but the rule says making the body unnaturally big. It doesn't say in an unnatural position. The offside play is only penalised when they come involved in active play. So it's still a handball first. Although, I thought the old offside rule was better when you either were, or weren't offside. This is an example of how they've tried to rewrite the law to cover different scenario's and screwed it all up. Taking out interpretation and making hard and fast rules is harsh, but it's the only way to apply them. Refereeing decisions should be almost robotic.

Very unlucky not to get at least a point from the game. Iv criticised Townsend a lot over the last 2 years but he has been brilliant in the 3 games so far. I was very impressed with Eze Saturday, especially the fact that he didn’t forget his defensive duties. For me one of the major reasons we are playing better is Kouyate at centre half. He has got to stay in that position. His pace is a major reason we are able to pitch up the pitch further and not get caught on the break and he has been immense. Also I think Mr Ayew is on borrowed time as a starter. He works very hard as always but he needs to be swapped for a goal scorer for us to push on.

Fully agree with these comments, sadly I think we have to find a replacement for Joe Ward as well, great servant but his distribution from possession is very poor, good blocker but just cannot pass the ball accurately which is vital for link up play from the attacking full backs!

Our ability to play 442, even against (arguably) better teams is that Ayew works hard defensively and will drop in to make a 5-man midfield when necessary (he did this effectively on Saturday dropping in to mark Allan). I'm not sure Batshuayi is willing or able to offer that, although possibly Zaha could. One caveat on that is that unlike most of the team, Ayew did seem to look better in a more defensive 433. Despite our strong start our decision making around the 18-yard box is still not quite good enough yet. Once Wilf and Eze get some more games together though I think that will change.

I agree that Eze looked very comfortable on the ball. However, for me, given how we like to play, he needs to take more risks and move the ball a lot quicker. Whilst he looks like he will be a really good player I think in the game against Everton he was one of the reasons we didn't make any clear cut chances second half. He looked at his best when he ran at the Everton defence but his pass at the end was too slow and got cut out.
