We can take the high moral view that during such a terrible pandemic how dare anyone consider carrying on playing a stupid game.... However that is not taking into account that professional football is a multi-billion pound business. Work has to continue as, the consequences to people otherwise would be greater than the effect of the virus. The country is trying to balance the economic crisis vs the health crisis and find the least painful way through both. Scrap the season and consider the financial consequences of paying back the TV money, the cost to many clubs of stopping promotions/relgations...
Then consider the human element of all this. If they can find a way of letting people enjoy the football at home without the risk of stupid scousers celebrating em masse (some might say not a bad thing anyway) then surely that will help morale, social distancing etc.
And, while I'm at it, if we dont finish this season, why should we start a new season in August. Surely that would be equally wrong even if the outbreak is under control. And why should any form of entertainment ever start again. It's all morally wrong when people are dying of hunger and dirty water around then world...Should I go on?

Maybe not until you read the subject of the thread which has nothing to do with what you are droning on about.
This is a discussion on the moral rights and wrongs of players continuing to expect to receive their exhorbitant wages during a crisis which is stopping their employers from being able to earn any income. The wider picture being that in the real world of every day industries people are dying, getting ill, losing jobs, businesses and homes. This obviously makes people very angry at the greedy Prem footballer on his unsustainable 200,000 a week!

everybody seems to want a scapegoat or a something/somebody to slander.

seeming as this threads in palace talk I will assume this is about palace players wages.

i dont begrudge the players what they earn, to my memory, i cant remember any 1st teamers, to coin a phrase “tossing it off” whilst wearing the red & blue in recent years...none have done a kevin miller.

they shouldnt take a paycut at this time, they should donate 50% to charity.

people have far to much time on their hands currently, and dare i say it should be using it constructively rather than getting worked up on the internet.

Nothing to do with scapegoats or someone to slander.

You might change your opinion if there’s no football and revenue for 9 months, which is the length of a full season.

And what if a club goes under or Palace go into a real tumble down the league because the players donated 50% to charity, which itself is a bit of a foolish thing to say after what you’ve said in your post. Clubs are in different cycles of financial fair play and squad overhaul and looking at our academy I don’t fancy our chances.

Imo the NHS and tax isn’t the responsibility of footballers, but if they wanted to make it their responsibility they could write cheques to the NHS and/or HMRC for the tax lost after taking a pay cut.

Are you aware that plenty avoid tax with various companies rather than Gordon Taylor they’re all PAYE?

Let me ask you: How long do you this is sustainable?
No income for the club yet paying the players their full wages.

And please no sanctimonious patronizing about what we should and shouldn't be doing.

Not sure why people need to be rude. The thread had moved onto whether the season shoud be resumed. My personal view is that everyone should sacrifice something during this crisis for the common good and morality or otherwise needn't come into it.

I'm out of words. The PL players have shown their hand and sadly it confirms my worst expectations.

The PL, rather pathetically, think they can resurrect the situation playing in empty stadia for Sky or BT or whoever. Yeah right. That'll work great.

It's buggered.
