Meyer was on the bench by default because there was no one else to sit on it. When a couple of players come back from injury he will never be seen again.

I’m not suggesting ‘Roy out’ but at 73 and with his contract due to expire at the end of the season, now might be a good time to start the transition. At least, that way, the new man could learn from him, get to know the players and both have a Jan window to consider things. Edited by Helmet46 (04 Oct 2020 8.39am) Apart from possibly when Dougie rejoined Palace as assistant manager, I can't recall any clubs doing this. And I'm pretty sure the ' Roy Out ' brigade wouldn't want someone learning from him ! As for the game yesterday, we looked comfortable until Sakho intervened. Both penalties I felt were soft, especially the first one, and they obviously made the scoreline worse than it might have been. Even though I am pro Hodgson, I thought his use of subs yesterday was pointless. Introducing Benteke for an ineffective Ayew would have posed more questions to Chelsea than merely exchanging midfield players. We tend to have one of this type of performance from time to time - let's hope it's out of the players system now for another few months. Edited by NEILLO (04 Oct 2020 9.05am)

But doesn’t that sum up Roy’s tactics perfectly? We ‘defended well’ - nothing at all about attacking. Substitutes just replace like with like, doesn’t change it up, vary the tactics, change gear. I cannot recall the Chelsea GK having a save to make really. I think Eze was fouled about ten times when running forwards, who's fault was that?

Oh the clowns are out again. Roy out! Where’s the attacking substitutions?? We played basically the same starting 11 as against United but included Eze so we were even more attacking. We got battered because Chelsea are much better than us and mainly because of shocking defending. Roy did not send that team out to play any differently than against United ? So who’s at fault? Have a look at our bench and tell me where these amazing attacking substitutes were sitting? At last somebody on this thread with a bit of realism.

The only reason we looked bad and lost this game is because of one defender and Chelsea's game plan of stopping us, all the other criticism and moaning is a total waste of time, just rewatch the full game and then inform me otherwise, cannot understand why everyone wants to blame our whole squad.

All their goals were our mistakes too, they had reasonable chances but they still if on target had to beat our solid keeper.

I think it’s valid to review and discuss options. A good debate and, for me, I’m not a fan of overly negative football. BUT I do like life in the EPL and that is my struggle - balancing one with the other. Edited by Helmet46 (04 Oct 2020 10.10am)

Until we reach the Eldorado of a higher status like Chelsea, we will always be looking to average a point a game and stay up. Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (04 Oct 2020 11.31am)

Yes, I fully agree with your comments, the Manager can prepare a team for a game but how they play and execute the plan is down to them as individuals on the day. Yesterday you would not have thought that it was basically the same players from a week ago , with the exception of Townsend, yesterday there play was well below par, even Zaha was slipping back to his end of last season form. I am a great fan of Roy and grateful for what he has done with this modest squad over the last three years, however, I can also understand why some fans are frustrated especially because yesterday we did not have one shot on target. let's hope the next game is different but we will still have to be at our best to beat a modest Brighton side and that requires us to score goals!
