I also don’t get why Roy persist with Kouyate. His control is poor and contribute little in attacking terms. Why the does he not give Camarasa a run when, according to other contributors, he is the most creative mid-fielder in the club we have? If he warrants a seat on the bench why not...or get rid?

How people think Camarassa is any good as a creative midfielder, after a poor showing against Colchester is baffling. Kouyate fits our style of play, not his best game last night, but has been very consistent this season.
The longer a player doesn’t play, the better he gets in fans mind, despite not seeing him in training. If he is so good, why are his parent club continually loaning him out? Just a thought?

With respect, I only provided stats to indicate the difference in the goalscoring records of Trossard and Meyer and that they are not the same player.

Trossard provides a goal threat and Meyer throughout his career has not been so.Whether a change of style or position will suddenly ignite Meyer as a goalscorer is a matter for conjecture.

But no one was comparing their scoring records...so it was irrelevant to the point. That's like comparing Ward to Ronaldo...

The point I was making was they're both very similar players; low centre of gravity, good close control, eye for a pass and technically proficient.

The fact one scored a lot of goals at a lower level and whilst playing in a different position whilst doing so isn't adding anything to the discussion.

I think you've misunderstood Meyer's game and I actually think his goalscoring record is relevant.

Leandro Trossard is physically similar to Meyer however they play different styles of football.

Trossard is a goal scoring winger, an attacking player, and I think it is a common misconception that Meyer is an 'attacking midfielder'. Apparently it was commonly considered in Germany that his best position was as a number 6 so to speak, he isn't naturally inclined to get forward and/or score goals, he is more of a neat and tidy, technically sound player in the middle of the park who sprays the ball about (when given the opportunity of course).

I think he looked good yesterday when he came on and made an impact but I am pessimistic we will ever see the best of him. Earlier in this season and last he often fails to get in to the game at which point he is only taking up a place on the pitch, hence why Roy would rather have someone a bit more combative in there most the time.

I am a fan of Maxi however I am still on the fence with my enthusiasm for him to start week in week out.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

I feel for Roy as he had to sell his best player in the summer and didn't get to spend the money BUT his style of play is just so dull. Three defensive centrel midfielders in every game regardless of the opposition. Rarely any change in plan with the substitutions (except last night when Meyer came on and we suddenly looked good). Same old corners/free kicks from Luka - do they not practice any attacking ploys in training? Also, what does he see in McCarthy? He finally had two youngsters on the bench last night due to injuuries, yet when Riedewald went off he moved Jimmy Mac to LB rather than bring on Mitchell - why have him on the bench if he had no thought of bringing him on? We've played 10 home games in all comps this season and scored 1 goal in the first half and that was a penalty. Something has to change before the crowds start falling away due to the tedium on offer.

Not mentioned much but I though James Tomkins was heroic
and held the defence together under extreme pressure.

His sublime flicked on header to Zaha produced the goal.

Cahill is a loss but if Sakho is back to partner Tomkins
on Saturday (and manages to stay on the field) I fancy our chances, especially if Meyer starts instead of Kouyate.

He has one more game to miss.

Good post and basically your comments were going to be my response to Lyons550's last post.

The irony of this is that Trossard is nothing other than a Meyer clone...which is why we should be playing him...Roy clearly doesn't think so. Put Meyer in their squad and he'd excel!

I said exactly the same about Meyer.
Can’t knock the points Hodgson has achieved since he has been here, we should stay up by some distance , but there cannot be a team in the league that plays worse football to watch than us.
Was laughing as we walked out how we had ‘nicked a point’, absolutely dominated for 70 odd minutes, we never got a corner until an hour into the game.
Don’t think we have ever played aswell /outplayed a team , as they did, in 7 years in the top league.
The irony being that once they scored , our players seem to grow a foot each, have 2 yards more pace and could easily have won.
Well happy now, but an awful , shocking 70 minutes.

Sakho will still be out with suspension. Newcastle have their own problems with ASM, Shelvey and Almiron all potentially out. Could be quite an ugly game with both teams desperately trying to give each other possession

Still we could get something if we play like we did in the last 20mins yesterday. Hopefully Gayle won't come back to haunt us and we have the entire first team squad wrapped in cotton wool until Saturday.

The reality is that Roy tends to use Max when he wants us to attack a team. Since he doesn't typically want this, he doesn't typically want Max. Max is a bit lightweight if resilience, athleticism and grit are your teams watch words. And they are.

This may sound like bitching but it isn't. We are 9th on 23 points after 17 games with a squad that's not had as much investment as it needs. That's outstanding.
