So indulge me - you seriously think Ward at this stage of his career (I’ve already accepted that he has previously been a great servant) is a premiership standard right back..??

Beyond that given the class and ability we now have in the squad - he is at that level and tell me how and why..??

Simple question just needs a simple answer..!!

Don’t dance around other posters this is about my opinion and yours..!!

I’ll freely admit I think Ward is way passed his best, and has been for a few seasons and that we should have replaced him in the summer - in fact should have replaced him the moment AWB left - that’s what 2 seasons ago..!!

Let’s be honest - he wasn’t good enough when AWB came into the side as an unproven youngster - now all of a sudden what 4 seasons later and 4 years older in a much better squad he’s at that/this level - do me a favour..!!

But football is all about opinion and this site is about reasoned debate so from that perspective within reason everyone’s point of view is valid..!!

I’ll leave it with I’ll guarantee if Ward remains in situ (which he won’t) he’ll cost us far more than he will benefit us and will become a liability - if he isn’t that already..!!

I think everyone gets it that you don't think Ward can do the job. You do not need to repeat yourself like a broken record. Fact is that no goals were let in, he made a goal line clearance (not for the first time) against a good West Ham and the manager is playing him. He will be replaced probably in January, until then you can rest assured that everybody has now heard that you have a dislike for Ward playing.

Is that because you've already allocated the name Conor after the West Ham game?

I am a little fed up with the tv wine drinkers criticizing Ward. Yes Gallagher did call for him to pass a number of times but it was risky and Spurs are a counter attacking side. Ward is experienced and sound his runs in the second half were excellent and he was covered by the back two. To criticize anyone in the back four today is the height of petty.

Can I state the bleeding obvious? Ward is currently at RB because there is no better replacement at the moment. Leave him alone.

Perhaps we should have bought the Spurs right back Royal who did not want to play football but just push be physical and get out of position. Joel ward was a class above.

Joel is OK defensively and his positional play is reasonably good but he could not be described as ‘a class above’. He has no pace and going forward his attacking threat is zero.

This was a great team performance and way above my expectations for the start to this season (one loss in 4 so far!) so well done PV and team. It was good to see that Edouard has all the qualities that Benteke does not, in his 10 mins on the field he is lively and gets in to the box and actually has some good anticipation and ground skills and can score, rather than the one dimensional lazy Benteke, let's hope this is the start of a great new striker era for this club, very much needed and very welcome and appreciated. Still worried though that we may still be vulnerable at the back as neither left or right back positions feel me with confidence!

I see that in spite of a good game by us the usual suspects have the usual axes out to grind.

I thought a good game from Ward and really good one from Mitchell. If he can keep it up it justifies the faith mgt has had in him. A good job all round from the team playing a side that usually has our number.

Ferguson will eventually come in when fit... he can play right across the back four.... hopefully both him and Eze will back early in the New Year....

Correct, he done well but is limited now, been a great servant, I would think Clyne would be better, maybe he isn't ready yet, Ferguson as stated can play all along the back four, if he is ever fit

Simple answer, he saved us with a great goaline clearence at West Ham, by tracking back, not standing on the goal line, as is his trade mark! I didn"t see todays game to be fair, will do later, but I just don"t get people knocking ceratin players, who played in our only league win, certainly premier league, against Tottenham I can remember! We won 3-0 against the top team ffs, why not just enjoy the moment rather than slag off a player-who was on the right side a 3-0 home win?
