Wilf has always been our Talisman - statistically we do better with him playing.

With Eze out until next year and Olise not proven we need his flair and hopefully he'll be revitalised by the new manager's positive tactics.

The last manager was a negative influence and I am hoping Vieira will persuade him to stay and give him the boost he needs.

That's the best bet for him (and for us)

And therein lies our problem. I am wondering whether PV, DF and SP are looking to create a squad which will reduce or even remove our reliance on Wilf. IMO we desperately need that to happen. With (say) 4 or 5 new players in the 1st team we could create a group that doesn't become mentally ham-stringed when Wilf isn't playing.

Just wondering how you know Vieiras view on the situation, has he publically commented.

I did say , “ he doesn’t seem the sort”. That doesn’t infer I know beyond any doubt.

I think the reality is we have pout ourselves in a good position.

If no clubs come in for Wilf and he stays with us I'm happy.

If he does go there are two very strong contributing factors to why its not the end of the world.

Unlike previous seasons when we were so reliant on Wilf the introduction off the likes of Eze last season shows we are not as reliant on Wilf as we were. In the past it was worth turning down less than 80mill as there was a strong argument it was worth that o the club to keep him (i.e not be relegated). Even with no Wilf we have a strong enough squad not to be relegated.

We have already signed a potential replacement for Wilf in Olise. Not as good no and unproven but importantly we signed Olise before Wilf has gone means we are not being held to ransom by other clubs and thus paying over the odds out of desperation.

For the first summer in ages I'm pretty chilled about the Wilf situation. Honestly I think an offer of 40mill+ and we let him go, anything less than that we can say no and keep him for the remaining 2 years on his contract and him go at the end for free if he wants to.

I agree . I really think this is the time to change course, It’s always a team game, and my feeling is we should now be looking to develop without a Wilf , that doesn’t even really want to be in the team.
Wilf .has been fantastic for Palace, but he wants to move on ,we should to.
It would be fantastic again if Wilf, actually wanted to be part of a new era of a youthful progressive Palace,, but he doesn’t actually want that or he would not keep advertising his wish to be available for pastures ,he thinks , greener than ours.

I would be surprised if any big club will buy him, his age, form and temperament put them off, the best he can hope for is a club similar to us, i would say his value is about 25m max

I honestly think if he moved he'd soon be dissatisfied again anyway and that clubs realise that. He'll probably just end up staying and moaning. The boy who cried wolf!

I fully agree with you. It looks like we are looking at players who can play in Wilf's position. This will give a number of pluses.
Firstly if he does go we have replacements already.
Secondly Wilf will have competition and to keep his place will have to perform.
Thirdly the constant Wilf wants to leave statements from him or his representatives will reduce as he can no longer hold us to ransom.
Lastly our reliance on one man will reduce and we will become more than a one man team

Its Wilf Greed that is holding him back, Nobody put a gun against his head and said you must sign, He took the 5 year contract and the 34million plus signing on fee, with no buy out clause, and still moans, i think the phrase Cake and eat it sums it up.

He needs to get on his bike double quick before he stinks out his "legend" status anymore.

I'm not saying they will but SP is unlikely to let him go for less!
