A modern day full-back ! PVA has scored 20 PL goals during his time with us and Sunderland, which is admirable for a defender and could be the most PL goals scored by a defender currently playing.
Possibly Cahill has more.

But picked Allisson in goal just for looking relaxed! Yeah you blind tw@t it's because he had nothing to do. I sometimes wonder if he actually watches the games. We played similar to last night earlier in the season against Liverpool and Villa and got punished. What we should be doing is playing more like that against lesser opposition and perhaps finding a better balance against the bigger teams. We fully deserved a point but Everton's finishing cost them the three points. I thought Wilf was too much for them, Eze looked confident and Jairo and Tekkers had some good involvement in the link-up play. Some of the one-touch play would have had the commentators creaming themselves if it had been Liverpool, Man City or Chelsea, but as it was us it was hardly metnioned. PvA got forward well but was awful in possession and wasted opportunities and was a liability at defending; his pace is the one thing we'll miss if he leaves though and his directness. Luka made a really bad mistake again, but in fairness did have a better second half. Vicente clearly has to get MOTM, but overall it was just really good to see us play some football for more than 5 minutes in a game. It also gives me hope that if we can just make a few shrewd signings then we could even have a chance of cracking the top 10 next season. On a side note, it's amusing to see various articles appearing from whining Everton folk about things ranging from Ward's "elbow" on Digne should have been a penalty, to Ayew made too much of a fuss about having a studs up challenge into his shin. So it seems the Blue side of Liverpool are a bunch of cry babies too Edited by taylors lovechild (06 Apr 2021 10.17am)

Possibly Cahill has more. Indeed he has.Thank you. Apropos goalkeepers, much more is demanded of them in the modern game.In the old days apart from shot-stopping etc etc they just had to clear their lines, nowadays they have to be good with their feet, need the ability to play out from the back so they now have to make decisions when receiving the ball to feet.

This is true but I’m such a dinosaur that I prefer goalkeepers who can save the ball before worrying about their distribution.

Didn't see the match last night. A change of daylight saving at my end and the opposite change at your end meant a 3am weekday kick off for me. Interested in 2 things: 1 - Not much mention on this thread about Wilf's performance. How was he?

Honestly thought Wilf was good, not spectacular but was constantly involved in anything good we did and was a threat throughout. 2. Don't recall it being `cold` but I actually suspect the lack of fans at games for so long now adds to a more subdued atmosphere for players when the celebrate.

This is true but I’m such a dinosaur that I prefer goalkeepers who can save the ball before worrying about their distribution. I'm with you totally on this one Teddy. The clue is in their job title. Number one priority - keep the ball out of the goal. I just don’t get the general emphasis on being 'good with their feet', surely anyone who plays football needs to be good with their feet. As for their kit - we'll, I know it helps to distinguish them, but pink, really. My 7 year old granddaughter saw some of the game and, in a tone of utter disgust, said 'why is that one wearing pink?'. Teddy, you and I both know that a goalie should wear a green roll neck jumper over black shorts. Proper kit eh? That said, I think Guaita rates as one of the best keepers we've had. Saved us again last night for sure.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

Bufon, the great Italian goalkeeper, played in pink and maintained it helped him. Clearly playing disguised as a trifle nonplussed Richardlison and co. The goal only came when Rodrigues could not see Vicente. Once again, shrewd planning by the Crystal Palace technical staff.

Those Italians. Bloomin' fancy pants trendsetters. Maybe you've got a point though steeleye, the brighter the better eh?!

The theory being that he louder and more garish the kit the more obvious and bigger it makes the keeper look and therefore on a subconscious level will make a striker more intimidated and less composed when striking the ball or bearing down on goal. I promise I've not made this up it is `a thing`

When there is only a fraction of a second you may pick out a player better. Romania v. England in the World Cup, can't remember what year, the Romanian team took the field with bleached yellow hair. Jimmy Hill thought it was a good idea and got pilloried for it. There you go, try anything once.
