Great to get our first win of the year and a much needed 3 points, and great to see us pressing upfield more and actually dominating a home game. But our woeful finishing still worries me. Had it not been for a virus and the absence of Luka we may not have seen PVA's goal.

agree with you. We should have scored at least 3. As to goals for. Newcastle and we now share bottom place on 24 each! Hence my original prediction that I couldn't see Newcastle scoring and I thought we would so I went for 1-0. A very good and important 3 points. Hopefully we didn't score more as we're saving them up for Brighton!!! Another performance like that should see us pick up at the least a valuable away point next week... but hopefully 3. Incredible how much better weekends are when Palace get a result. COYP

Always great to get three points but our finishing, or lack of it, made me cringe.

That win looks even better now that all our bottom half of the table rivals have got nothing from their games apart from Brighton and their solitary point. And surely Liverpool won't falter against West Ham tomorrow?

I mentioned on HOL prior to the Newcastle game that 3 points for us would be hugely beneficial as all the teams below us were playing away and they weren't all going to win away from home.I certainly don't expect a major shock at Anfield. The picture looks far healthier for us not only in terms of points but the goal difference, but as much as this round of games worked in our favour there will of course be other weekends when results are not favourable to us.

Just got home from the match (transatlantic flight) . Really fun time. The crowd was into it early, lots of noise. Lots of singing. Positive atmosphere. This was the first match in ages where we totally outplayed the other team, and richly deserved 3 points. I thought Newcastle gave us way too much space. They actually reminded me a bit of how we play, in that they struggle to pass or get the ball upfield, but when they got it to St. Maximin, he looked as dangerous as Zaha, and stronger. I agree with others that we do not miss Luka in our lineup. We've played better in the games he has been out, IMO. Our corners were so much better. And PVA's goal was great. I thought Ayew was MOTM, but everyone played well. I thought Benteke did a good job of holding the ball up all match long, winning every header, even in windy conditions. But, as usual, he was hopeless in his chances around the net. If we had had Tosun playing, he would have buried 1-2 of the chances Benteke got. Still, I can't blast Benteke, because he played better than usual. Zaha had 2-3 men blocking him every time he got the ball on the touchline. That seems to be the way every match now. After a while, instead of passing it backwards, he started driving into the middle of the field, which seemed to work well in opening things up. Aside from his goal, I thought PVA had a good match too. He carried the ball quickly out of the back numerous times.
