Easy answer to this. Scrap offside. With the pace of the current game “goal hangers” would be a liability as play switches direction. It would also open up play because there would effectively be more pitch to defend. More goals guaranteed I reckon, which is never a bad thing. Under no circumstances should offside be scrapped. Understanding it is one of the few things we have left over women and must remain that way.

But I suspect quite a few chaps are not aware of the wording of the Law in terms of "Nearer to the opponents goalline...." etc etc ! Edited by Willo (30 Dec 2019 7.00pm)

It was always going to happen the second we start to scrutinise evidence, where to begin and where to end should've been agreed, arranged and written down long before VAR began, common sense once again was never invited.

Good to see that IFAB have said that VAR isn't being used the way it should in some places, and I quote: "This is the problem. People are trying to be too forensic. We are not looking to make a better decision, we are trying to get rid of the clear and obvious mistakes. I suspect the final sentence is a reference to the Premier League.

Yep, when you think about it and any of us were in charge of deciding the outcome we would all be scribbling lines all over Zaha and dotting dots all over Teemu Pukki and eventually we'd all be using microscopic fibres with incredibly high powered lenses and we know it lol

Without VAR, Jordan's goal at West Ham would have been ruled offside while Wilf's at Southampton would have stood. Imho, not one of us would have argued.
Why is offside more important at one stage of a game then not another? And worse, while they review and draw lines for minutes, they allow off the ball incidents, diving and more to be overlooked. Either use it for everything or don't use it all.

They need to keep it as it is this season though and change at the end otherwise it could prove unfair as you just know that with that instruction there will be a load of offside goals now allowed.

There will be no change this season for the reasons you have explained but I expect a change for next season.

It would seem that VAR has turned out to be to accurate for a lot of people’s tastes.
