Watched the highlights. Looks like Sakho definitely wasn't ready to start, but with no other fit options and 5 CBs in the squad that's not something that can really be complained about.

However, I maintain as I have since AWB was sold that neither of our full-backs should be starters.

When I witnessed Sakho coming on against A.Villa I thought he was carrying more weight than previously.

Other teams change and bring on subs when clearly things aren't working. It was clear nothing was working early in the first half. The rhetorical question is when were our changes. There isn't a question mark. I'm tired of the team not responding when necessary. Around half of our performances so far this season have been poor; Villa was a decent performance. Man U was lucky. Everton solid.
You are right we can't score. God forbid we practice set pieces or something as innovative as that. If you can't score change something. We have who we have - do something different with them. Catch an opponent out. We are far too predictable and we have been worked out.

If we are poor as you keep bleating on about, how are we third on current form this calendar year?

We are a poor team.

We have a poor keeper who lets any shot in that goes at his near post. We have two full-backs who cannot defend and criminally we have no backup for either position. Our centre-halves are slow and ageing. Our midfielders have no creativity in them (indeed thay can barely pass to their own team) - yet we have two creative midfielders on the bench every week. Our wide players seem to have forgotten how to take people on and cross the ball, and out forward's main talent is that he's good at running about.

I've followed Palace for over 50 years and have been a season ticket holder for 35, yet I cannot remember a time when I've been less enthusiastic about going to watch them play. Even in the dark days of the mid-80s there were players at the club I wanted to see play. Hodgson has sucked the life out of the players he has and has just one method of playing. How often do we score an early goal? We must be the lowest first-half scorers in recent years. Football is meant to be entertainment - if this is the best we can expect from Hodgson then it is time he went and took his overdue retirement. Not all his fault of course - the appalling transfer policy in recent times has left him with an expensive, ageing squad of players that are not going to get any better. Rather than risk signing youngsters from the Championship, we go for expensive PL castoffs or foreign players who rarely seem to make the grade for us.

Poor keeper? Lets bring back Hennessey then he lets them in near post far post, high, low, all over.......wonder why you bother going at all??..Our lack of goalscorers is much more important than the keeper!

It’s a strange situation.
As others have pointed out we are in the top 6 for form over the calendar year.
Yet it doesn’t feel that way.
We are bottom of the goalscoring chart this season and seem unlikely to move too far up the chart anytime soon.
I was fortunate to witness terrific victories last season at Manchester City, Newcastle and Arsenal.
But I also sat through terrible performances v Brighton, Southampton (h), Wolves (h) and Newcastle (h).
Perhaps this is just the life of a football supporter.
But I do question whether Hodgson is getting the best out of the current squad and I don’t like his negative philosophy.
Yes he has 40 years more experience in the game than me and is a respected manager.
But I still have my doubts while acknowledging he can organise a defence.

We're worse than last year. We were uninspiring for much of that. I have put forward my reasons - why not tell me why I'm wrong instead of just citing a form table that's of no relevance to the actual league table. I have predicted 16th. From what you say you must think we're going to finish third. I wonder who's being realistic.

I like many fans at the ground headed back down to the bar after 30 mins, only to leave at half time. What a waste of time and money that was.

We were absolutely useless.

Roy picked the right team for what he had available against a good side who were up for it. I can't blame Roy at all, as I don't really know what he could have done differently.

I do think we need to remember we were playing Spurs, last years Champions League finalists.

We can't expect to be putting in performances every week against top 4 clubs.

The manor of the defeat hurts but I will pick myself up and head over to Selhurst on Sunday to do it all again expecting a reaction.

Don't waste your energy or time being annoyed by this result.

There are 3 things you can be certain of in life - death, taxes and our full backs being roasted in the 19/20 season.

Most teams try to improve there team if they can, Batshuayi and AWB were key players and were not replaced even if that had been loans, so we are undoubtedly worse off, I expect loans will be found in January lets hope its not too late.

Feel like there's a lot of moaning on this thread.

I'm not blasting it at all, in fact I have been a chief moaner at times however I feel like the time for that has passed and there's little we can do about it now.

We do have a below par squad at the moment, no cover in positions where the only available choice probably isn't good enough, bereft of goal scorers, aged defence, disinterested Wilf and declining Townsend etc. but there's f-all anyone can do about it at the moment.

I am resigned to hoping for at the most a battling performance and fortuitous points but we have already gotten that this season and it may just continue. I actually feel far more relaxed with dampened expectations.

RH is extremely limited at the moment and almost certainly not the worst person to have at the helm in a time like this. Was not surprised by Spurs result at all, in fact I thought that would come at Old Trafford but look what happened there.

We've got 7 points from 5 which aint half bad and three winable or at least drawable games coming up, I think the panic will be far more justified if we pick up nothing there. Forget this one and move on.

I didn't mention Hennessey. I just think that VG is not that good - which applies to most of the team.

I was expecting us to be defeated but never expected to lose by 4 goals. I was horrified with the H/T score - at least we drew the second half.

At the end of the day, Hodgson’s target is to keep us in the PL and he believes that the style of play is best suited to achieve that objective.Functional, not attractive, a hard watch and this will continue until the end of the season. Bournemouth play very much on the front foot whereas we are all about shape discipline etc etc.

We will struggle to win games, and supporters just have to accept that we are not going to be entertained and the team might just pull off an unlikely win or two.Long hard season devoid of entertainment but if we remain in the PL many will feel that end justified the means.

Well you have just echoed what Roy Hodgson himself said - “ a long and at times painful season ahead “.

The ambition at the moment is to stay in the Premier League - anything else is a bonus.

We are not a poor team.

We are an average Premier League club without the resources to progress without either major outside investment or the ability to generate income by developing players as was done with AWB.

Hodgson’s annual mandate is to keep the club in this league. His tried and proven methods may not be popular or indeed attractive but they are effective. So why would he change from what he knows best ? Far from “ sucking the life “ out of the players , he has ensured they stay playing at the top level. I think you will find players follow the money, I can’t think of any that would leave a club to play more attractive football. Parish is lucky that in Roy he has a reliable guy that works within a set of parameters that maybe others wouldn’t.

Yes, it is tough to raise the enthusiasm given these circumstances but this is the reality. And you have supported the club for as long as I have so you should know full well that there have been much darker times than these
