But we can't make it personal nick Look in the mirror for a clue. Just to make things clear. If I remember rightly you bought the subject into the debate but then failed to answer simple questions about it when pushed. You've then tried to turn your inability to answer the question on me by alluding that I am obsessed. I've not actually given any views on multiculturalism in this debate, yet you somehow use this to pigeonhole me. It's all there over the last few pages

This is precisely the problem. People do not like their existing cultural norms destroyed. Edited by hedgehog50 (15 Feb 2017 11.34am) Some people. Personally, I prefer the idea of cultural fluidity, rather than the staid idea of a monolithic, unchanging culture, that stamps all over anything different. So what cultural norms are being broken down and destroyed? Celebrate our differences, rather than hide behind them. Its a beautiful new world.

I think as a country we're accepting. I think its vital to draw a distinction between refugees and immigration/emigration. The first have no real choice in the matter. Without access to asylum they're reduced to living in ad-hoc camps indefinitely, with little in the way of functional services and options for their future (and increasingly radicalised factionalism - as Islamist terrorist groups and extremist factions are notorious for recruiting and thriving in camps of the displaced - as they offer the only options in terms of income).

My point being most people prefer to stay with their own. You have some Liberal enclaves where people mix, but they tend to be people of a higher geo social background. The moment (mainly honkies) start moving into certain areas its called 'gentrification' you then have people EG Spike Lee (who incidentally lives in the very nice Fort Greene area of Brooklyn) complaining that the area is losing its character (If improving a s*** hole is like a bad thing)& rents are sky rocketing. I Personally welcome anything which improves peoples lifestyle & increases their wealth.

I don't know much about all that. I'm not very political.
