I'm not really sure either side can be defended Matt. After the war ourselves and the Yanks decided to make an idiotic move and helped force a Jewish state in Israel. The irony is that prior to this Jews and Muslims had been living in relative harmony. We caused what has been 60+ years of hatred and war. As it is the Israelis pay for settlers to move to the Palestinian part of the West Bank, the Palestinians murder these 'invaders' the Israelis then use their American funded arsenal of weapons to smash the Palestinians. In turn the Palestinians fire rockets at border towns. The Palestinians murder Israeli teens and blow up busses, the Israelis assassinate political figures and use airstrikes to kill innocents. Unfortunately that is the Middle East situation. Both sides are filled with both innocents and horrible butchering people.

Stirling, personally I get what you are saying but each day there is no conflict is another day diplomatic means can be sought.


The decision to create the State of Israel was complicated. Arab tribal chiefs had been happily selling land to Jewish settlers for over a hundred years prior to the creation of the state. Also the context of the Jewish people after the Second World War needs to be understood. The Jews suffered untold horrors in the Second World War and the creation of a Jewish homeland largely came around following the need for the Jewish people to have security and prevent another holocaust.

There are no such people as Palestinians. The people described as Palestinian are as much Egyptian, Jordanian, Syrian and Iraqi. It is an invented term. Many Arabs live happily in Israel, go to Tel Avi/Haifa and see the integration. The 'Palestinians' in Gaza and the West Bank and not prepared to integrate and want to undermine the Jewish State.

There are elements of the Israeli population who are odious. Some of the ultra Jewish conservatives hold hideous views.

I was talking about defending the Palestinian cause. In general. The Palestinians have proved time and time again hat they are unable to act in a civilised manner, for example the unprovoked murdering of three teenagers making their way home. The murders have not been condemned by the Palestinian leadership or for that matter by he Palestine Campaign.

One more thing, as you didn't know the difference between deficit and debt reduction, would you like some pointers on the history of the Israel/Palestine situation?

Anyone else think Israel are being a tad heavy handed?


Last time it all kicked off these were the facts:

In Operation Cast Lead, Israel’s attack on Gaza in winter 2008-09, three Israelis were killed by rocket attacks, and six soldiers died in fighting. In Gaza, meanwhile, nearly 1,400 Palestinians were killed, of whom at least 1,000 were not involved in hostilities, according to the Israeli group B’Tselem. Many, if not most, of those civilians were killed by so-called precision bombs and missiles.

By the way as with the last round of war and bloodshed an Israeli election was due in a couple of months.



But the Palestinians deliberately position their missile launch sites in residential areas.......


Whereas the Israelis only invade and bomb the Palestinian countryside

An invented term, you say. Like Americans? Australians? That kind of invented term?

Many Palestinians today have direct ancestors going back hundreds of years who lived on the same land as them. That gives them identity. Shame you are trying to undermine that.

You can only see one side. And there are plenty of others like you Palestinian and Israeli. Therein lies the problem. Rabin had the right idea. Pity his own murdered him for daring to olive branch.

"unprovoked" stealing people’s homes and massacring them and then continuing to build new settlements on stolen land would provoke a far less patience response from the US and Britain if it happened to them than we expect of the Palestinians.

"unable to act in a civilised manner" running over people with bulldozers and burning a teenager alive hardly places Israel in a good light in terms of being all that civilized

For all the talk of Palestinians denying the state of Israel - which is not true in any case - Israel doesn't accept a Palestinian state.

The Palestinian people are not one group - they are a mixture of wandering people. They are not descended from one direct lineage as people would would have you believe. And for many of these people, their ancestors happily sold land to Jewish settlers. What did their ancestors think would happen when they did that?

I don't see one side. Read my post above to gusset. There was criticism in there of the Ultra Conservatives in Israel. But that doesn't fit with your prejudiced view of me, does it?
