There’s much to admire in our play, but can anybody seriously see us keeping too many clean sheets?
The amount of draws this season is not down just to bad luck, although it’s played a part.
If we can’t keep clean sheets we’ll need to score at least two goals to win games.
Ideally press the home the advantage which our play warrants and get two goals ahead.
I thought Benteke played quite well today but, aside from the missed chances, he partially negates the effectiveness of Edouard (possibly our most natural finisher) by displacing him in the central role.
We’ve dominated for long spells v Brighton, Arsenal and today but have 3 points to show for it.
In the cold light of day we should be aiming for 6 points from these fixtures.

you cant play Benteke and Eduoard in the same team, Eduoard wide loses his effectiveness, he is the future, Benteke is the past.

It was Benteke who missed all four of those chances today. Eduard played well but didn’t have any shots at all.

That's because he was playing out of position, He is a CF

Don't understand the criticism of Benteke. He had a good game. 1 goal, one hit the cross bar, one the upright, might have scored a stunner were it not for the foul by Guehi. Plus great link up play and defence work.....

18 goals in 4plus seasons doesn't help

Because we’ve been very close to cracking it and PV has made great progress, some fans are frustrated, when really we should be relieved it’s going in the right direction but keep backing everything in the belief we’ll be on the right side of the current fine margins.

Mate fair enough - football is a matter of opinions..!!

You’ll get used to it on here. People grab onto anything to suit their agenda.

Yes, I agree. It would be a shame to see PV adopting the Hodgson tactic of placing square pegs in round holes.

More gutted after that than any other game this season.

They were there for the taking, and whilst we went at our best we did enough to have won it.

Although he looked pretty dangerous, (I think) literally all our chances fell to Benteke. Not sure if its wasteful finishing of if he did well, most likely the latter.

I still don’t think Benteke works for us in this new system, just doesn’t move enough. But potentially another debate.

One thing that will be interesting to get thoughts on is Olise vs Ayew. Olise looked great in the 2nd half when we had our tails up, but didn’t do much in the first half. Potentially instructions given to him, but he didn’t move from the line and didn’t really get involved too much.

In recent games Ayew has been pretty involved in the press and holding the ball. Maybe he is more important that ppl give him credit for.

For some reason many fans disrespect the work Ayew does, I think he is vital and today we missed him hugely, Benteke should've scored the through ball for the one on one and that would've seen Newcastle off, his other chances were dealt with through bad luck and good defending but he is massively improved, he was absolutely immense during a period after he scored in which he had the crowd gasping with excitement with a turn and a brilliant dummy, he is appearing as he once was.

Of course the football, energy and attacking intent are the best we seen in years but it will all count for nothing if we are in a relegation scrap come the end of the season.

Unfortunately we do not look capable of keeping clean sheets. Particularly from set pieces we look weak. This needs to be addressed as we’ve conceded at least half dozen goals from set pieces this season.

Can we please bin off Luka. His lack of pace, needless fouls and insistence on taking set pieces is killing us. We have plenty of options in the squad not to carry players who are past their best.

So in summary,
We now have two brilliant centrebacks who cannot defend corners.
With a fully fit squad and 50 million pounds of new players, if Roy was still the manager we would be in the relegation zone.
It doesn't matter what substitutes PV uses as long as he uses them and we can all complain about what Roy used to do.
One win in 10 games this season shows just how brilliant we are playing.

So, I apologise for that, but please can we just move on from Roy Hodgson and concentrate on what we have now.

I am really worried that we cannot win when playing well. What will happen when performances slip a bit and when we get a few injuries. I'm a Palace fan and I remain worried about our chances this year.

You have to let the past go, it is now that matters and it is now that he appears much more confident and a real goal threat.

Do you think Vieira knows what he is doing? He has stated more than once Edouard can play in any position in a front three.
