Denis Compton was a handy footballer - can't imagine Arsene being too thrilled if he went off and played cricket in the summer now. I was kinda thinking my footballers v cricketers series would involve the current exponents, so not a Neville (retired) and not a Compton (dead). Any ‘road’ which team would Compton play for?

Joe Hart used to be a very young promising cricketer with Shrewsbury CC and he was also in the Worcestershire youth squads. Ian Botham used to play as a centre half for scunthorpe

We really need Stokes in the squad. The ECB have sanctioned him to play in New Zealand yet he cannot play for England.

Sometimes in the workplace, employees are suspended pending a formal investigation so they are removed from the premises before any guilty verdict. Clearly sometimes other factors enter the equation depending on the nature of the incident and the evidence available at that time.

I am not sure about the footballing prowess of some of the Ashes squad but footage has shown them engaging in a game as part of their training routines. Some of them of course have a keen interest in football and support clubs. Joe Root for instance is a devotee of Sheff Utd, I think Moeen Ali is a fan of Liverpool and James Anderson supports Burnley - he used to play for Burnley CC based just outside the ground. Going back a few years, Darren Gough and Dickie Bird are both Barnsley supporters and I have a feeling that Matt Prior supports that lot who play near the sea in the Falmer Area ! I think Graham Thorpe and Kevin Pietersen ae Chelsea supporters and I believe that former Kent cricketers Alan Igglesden and Martin McCague support our club. Edited by Willo (07 Dec 2017 1.52pm)

We were rubbish - and I like Joe Root as a cricketer, but not as skipper, was never convinced by Cook either. We play Test cricket like a one day match and our bowlers don't pitch the ball just short of a length nearly often enough. I couldn't believe it when he won the toss and chose to bowl. You just don't do that in Australia. At least Cook and Root held their batting together when made captain, Vaughan's fell apart when he got it but he was a very good captain.

I can never understand why our bowlers can often never get it right. They are supposed to be the three or four best bowlers in the land and they get paid £1m every year to bowl so why don't they know where to land the ball and actually get the ball to land there. It's a bit like highly paid footballers who make a mess of taking a corner I blame the ball. We can produce great bowling at home with a Duke, but we can't with the Kookaburra. It matters less in ODI cricket, where they only use the Kookaburra, as we have come up with a great tactic called "get a s***load of runs and don't worry about bowling them out".

Normally when it happens in the workplace, like the tram driver for example. Compare Stokes with Gerrard, well one of his incidents anyway. Gerrard was arrested, charged with assault and affray and then played for Liverpool the next weekend. Before his trial he also carried on playing for England. Stokes has been arrested, not charged and I'm still sceptical that he will face any charges at all.
