Fulham really should have got the ball on to Mitrovics head, Scott had an afternoon off. A welcome win good performances all round, what's there not to like? Well playing in that way against top half teams we will get thrashed, we were better on the ball but don't retain it well. Yes quite, our retention is quite awful but the actual final third play is wonderful to watch especially when Zaha is on form and today we could've scored two more quite easily, trouble is Fulham could've scored at least four with the amount of space we allowed them to attack us so yes good teams will without any doubt score much more then one.

Great result obviously. But I dont like the way we surrender possession so readily. I can understand it against the big guns but against lesser teams we should be more pro-active and make THEM defend. We are giving teams the opportunity to get back in the game. Fulham only took one chance but they hit the woodwork twice and it could have been a different story, Yes they did but we still managed to get at them in much the same way once all our allowing them so much time to pass it around had been squandered, the difference today was Zaha again and that is quite worrying.

Looked better with Jairo and Eze on the pitch at the same time.

Sorry but I disagree with this, he defended, tackled, got blocks in and broke up play all game and got forward and got an assist, quality all round yes, quite.

Against a very poor Fulham team Originally posted by Tickled pink
It is very difficult to alter a defending system especially when all the players are playing it so well, but the way we play allows teams to pass the ball around too well because we don't get close enough in the way Townsend did today especially in second half, perhaps if we had played with more of Townsend's determination of today we could've upset Chelsea and Brighton A little bit more allowing our forward play to actually appear.

I'm not taking anything away from a very good performance... In particular Townsend and Reidewald were superb... But we played a very poor side and wont play a worse team than that this season. However, a win is a win and it was badly needed. fulham were really excellent with their build up and were positive with it but they were poor with their attacking and defending where the important stuff is done and where we look decent especially when Zaha is awake, basically Fulham were the opposite of us.

The big bonus for us this year must be the depth of the squad. If there is the customary injury crisis Roy will still be able to put out a full PL side. I can see him reverting from 4-4-2 though with a few adverse results. 32 games to go and not one of them straight-forward.

Against a very poor Fulham team Fulham are not very poor, they could've quite easily scored another goal today especially in the first half ..if anything we were very poor in retention and supplying the ball forwards, the difference was we made the most of our opportunities in and around their box and they didn't.

Agree with this. should always analyse the opponents missed chances and where we got lucky. the lookman shot on the post could have been anything. Originally posted by A1969Eagle

Agreed. Thats whats meant by the phrase 'Men vs Boys'. Its not that we were physically better, its that we were so much less naive, and that more than anything else is the distinction between a hardened top flight side and a green newcomer. They can have the ball as long as they want in areas that don't matter, so long as we come out on top in areas that do.
