I do believe many players do a lot of charity work behind the scenes and I would not expect this to change. Maybe the players are still donating large sums towards causes such as the NHS and would prefer to continue to do this, rather than take a pay cut and have no control over where the funds are spent. Just a reflection on the subject, may not be the case for all players but I strongly believe the majority are doing there bit. Players tend to get a bad press whatever they are up to as that is what sells newspapers in the first place. If the papers started telling all the stories of the charity work they are doing, the public would probably moan that they are doing this for their own self image, so they can't really win can they ?

They could have written and agreed conditions on the money being paid if it turns out the clubs don’t need the money. I do not believe the players as a whole are donating or are prepared to donate 30% of their wages to anything or anybody. The players are a big part of football and not the NHS anyway. The players don’t get it, or don’t want to, unsurprisingly.

Roma players making the biggest statement by approaching the club to not just suspend/ defer pay but forgo it whilst also helping other club staff to receive their full salary. Well done to them.

There seems to be a good ethos at Roma, they also do the missing kids thing with some success I think. Fair play to them although I have to say I thought it would be the norm by now but it's actually rare which I find quite shocking.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

But I guess someone has to start the ball rolling...although I'm not too confident of others jumping on the bandwagon.

Well done Roma! Now my favourite foreign team!
I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything. |

I still continue to hope this is the case and if not this is their choice and they have to live with this. I will continue to do my bit and that's all I can really influence.

When you look at individual players such as Walker at Man City and Wayne Rooney at Derby, does anyone truly believe they care about anyone apart from themselves?

According to the Daily Mirror Mesit Ozil is refusing to take a pay cut: I am not here to query the accuracy of this claim, but someone please tell me his £350,000 a week wage is wrong. That's nearly £17 million a year!!

That's nearly £17 million a year!! I think this was his stance (led by his agent’s comments) a few weeks ago before the players announced their cut. He wanted proof and figures before he agreed. We’ll find out what happens with him. 12.5% is still pathetic and they could have clauses whereby they get money back if it proves the cut to specific levels wasn’t needed.

Apparently he doesn't want to be rushed into a decision which will leave him with £306,000 a week as his agent hasn't yet grasped 'the financial implications of it'. Very sensible as this will leave the NHS £24,000 a week worse off. Edited by Slimey Toad (21 Apr 2020 12.36pm)
