Giving Roy a 1 year extension and then backing him in the transfer market, where we clearly have a lot of chopping and changing to do makes no sense to me. So either we wont see much change over the summer recruitment wise or the next manager who comes in after Roy will be told you've got what you've got. This presents issues in itself. We've got a Manager who is clearly here for the short term but now we are going to back him.. mental. If we are future planning then employ someone as Manager to go along with the same vision fs No, I think you're wrong. A club our size needs to be signing players as part of a long-term vision, with the next manager also fitting that vision. A big club can afford to bring in a manager and back their vision, but a club our size cannot. Furthermore, this current squad is not capable, in my opinion, of fighting another PL campaign without new additions. The age of the squad has become an issue both in terms of injuries and in more congested periods of the season when some players have started to look like they're struggling. Whether Roy stays or not we need to invest as aside from Norwich (who are clearly going down) every club has invested this season and will no doubt do the same this summer. Another season without investment and our odds of staying up would diminish further.

Newcastle's net spend this season is nearly £34 Mill, and they shelled out some £60 Mill on transfers which is a far cry from our spend.

Certainly not the current mess that Palace is. I can't see anyone wanting the job, barring the terminally desperate. is the easy answer. but seriously...look down the PL table...he has no viable career move. You are right. We are a basket case. But I fancy our pruning of the wage bill here and there will have improved our finances no end. So perhaps a new broom will get more £££ to spend than Roy. What's the point buying players for Roy? (is one way to think about it)

I take your point but we have got ourselves into a position where we are in need of a fairly big overhaul in terms of quality of player and financial implications not your general end of season movement of players. Doing this with a Manager who will likely be gone in 12months does not make sense to me.

Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky. |

People change their minds of course, but when I asked DF if asked would he take the managers job again he was adamant that he didn’t want to go back into management. It’s been reported that Hodgson’s looking for assurances that he will be provided with funds in the summer before signing a new contract but I don’t see anything happening until the club are certain of which league they will be playing in next season. And despite the state the club are in there will be no shortage of applicants should a vacancy arise for the managers job

Will the quality of our applicants be good enough? And Parish hasn’t signed any managers that aren’t either very well known or staring him in the face as obvious choices. Those have run out, along with the option to cover up messes with more money. It’s going to be interesting, or possibly more Hodgson ball with 3 defensive midfielders and one man in the box. None if Benteke is selected, or if he is has no idea where the teammate of however many years is going to deliver the ball by reading his body and the play. That’s when or if the ball goes into a dangerous area once or maybe twice a match, fortnight or month.

At least he has familiarity with this group of players since he signed half of them. It's probably the best option available to us if there's going to be limited investment going forward. Originally posted by Chubskip
