Leaving aside yesterday, the defensive coaching drills of Hodgson are there for all to see and in fairness this is a key part of the game.
What I can never see, however, is any evidence of coaching on the attacking side of the game.
Basically it’s give the ball to Zaha and see what happens.
If he’s not on song for whatever reason we’re unlikely to score too many.
It’s too simplistic to say this is just down to the lack of
quality in the strikers that we have.

We are quite average and yesterday we played a team that fits very nicely in the top six, if our players could run and pass the ball as well as Spurs and also execute the cute little niggling fouls to break up attacking play without attracting the attention of the ref we would also be sitting nicely in the top six and in any case if any of our players had the cheek to play as consistently and well as any of the players Spurs have they'd be off as quick as Wan-Bissaka! ...and you know that!!

I accept I’m in a minority where Hodgson is concerned and it’s a case of having to agree to differ.
Yesterday was our worst performance at Tottenham since promotion.
We are playing with 9 behind the ball regardless of the opposition.
When Pulis did this at least he had the excuse of an inferior squad.
We have a better and more experienced squad now and at times have played decent football.
Hodgson distrusts ball players in midfield and that’s part of the reason why the passing is so woeful.
As to having no strikers for him to pick there must be those in power at the club who disagree.
Wickham’s contract has been extended, we’re in negotiations to extend Benteke’s contract and apparently we want to do the same with Sorloth.
One can only assume that Hodgson is not part of these discussions/decisions.

Having someone who is competent with passing requires someone who is competent with receiving it, also it does require someone competent on the ball to be able to actually give the ball to the competent ball player in the first place, this requires a little more thought and a massive huge purse.
Teams in the top six are there for a reason, we are not part of it.

Worst result not performance.

They stopped us by clinically cheating whilst we attacked, all the top teams do it ..all the other attempts we ruined ourselves through poor passing ability.

We were crap in defence, midfield and attack. Even Guaita was rubbish. You can't get more comprehensively bad than that. I might also add the tactics were wrong too. Spurs scored with route one stuff - they didn't need to be a top side to do that. Shown up for lack of pace at the back and lack of movement all over the pitch.

The Beast was the only viable option due to injuries and looked rusty returning himself. Hopefully he will improve game to game. Seem to have a lot of injuries at the back. They are obviously worked hard, producing one of our strengths. Not sure about the attack though.

I'm sure we can improve. Would be pretty hard to concede softer goals.
If we had played anybody as a sweeper a lot of their play would not have been possible, so clever tactics could have helped too. Would not have needed to be a specialist sweeper - just someone to make the ball over the top too risky for them.
Every other team will have noticed how bad we were and just play long ball against us. Our thirty year old plus centre backs and aging/ poor full backs will struggle to get back. Obvious and will be happening match after match now.
Those saying Spurs were good are incorrect - they just identified an obvious flaw, whilst that was compounded by us being poor.

Yes, we all got it wrong including the critics and the commentators and the Press. Not.

People accuse Hodgson of being a tactical dinosaur and then you suggest playing with a “ non specialist sweeper “ and employing “ clever tactics “ ( whatever that actually means ). Genius. Out of interest, who would you play in the sweeper role ?

Not every team in the league has players capable of moving the ball as quickly and accurately as Spurs have. Better teams than us will lose to them this season.

Performance wise I agree with you, we can and need to improve. As good as Spurs were, our own level of performance was well short of what is required to be competing against top opposition.

If anybody is saying we weren't crap then they are wrong. As for people saying Spurs were great, as I already said they weren't. They played direct and we couldn't handle it.
Fair enough, there was a degree of accuracy and urgency about what they did. I will say that. They could be in the top four at the end of the season but they don't seem as good as last season to me anyway.
Could have played Woods as a sweeper or Kouyate as a central defender. We lack pace at the back even if everyone was fit. Or am I also so wrong there? And yes some innovative tactics would not go amiss.
No point in not conceding anymore when you're already well down. You have to change things, you have to try to outscore them if you can't defend. Our team and manager seem literally unable to adapt at all.
I hardly think I'm the only one saying it. As for pundits - it doesn't make that much difference to me what Andy Gray or even Gary Neville thinks. I'm pretty sure I'm also not the only one who ignores them either.
We are Palace and the pundits have basically ignored us for years except to condescend us on the odd occasion.

One main problem yesterday was that Sakho played so poorly. Hopefully by next week he will be back to his old self? The other problem will then be do you bring back Tompkins to play alongside him or does Cahill keep his place? Not sure a Sakho / Cahill partnership works and that may also have been a problem yesterday? If it is them two, does Tompkins switch to right back where Ward doesn’t look good enough at, other than as a squad player. Not sure how this is going to work out. And, what’s our best midfield now? We look a long way off in having a settled team in my opinion :-(
