I think England should do what we used to do at my old sports club in Crayford; have a Footballers v Cricketers series.

England cricket team v England football team at cricket on one date and then at football a few days later. Both teams could then find their true level.

Joe Hart used to be a very young promising cricketer with Shrewsbury CC and he was also in the Worcestershire youth squads.
I believe Phil Neville was on the books of Lancashire CCC.
Steve Ogrizovic played cricket for Shropshire.

Denis Compton was a handy footballer - can't imagine Arsene being too thrilled if he went off and played cricket in the summer now.

Yes absolutely right about Compton's footballing prowess.
I think he finished his football career before I was born.

Of course !
I think he played a lot of games for Arsenal but like Denis I think all before I was born.

Is Cook's time drawing to an end.

We were rubbish - and I like Joe Root as a cricketer, but not as skipper, was never convinced by Cook either. We play Test cricket like a one day match and our bowlers don't pitch the ball just short of a length nearly often enough.

I can never understand why our bowlers can often never get it right. They are supposed to be the three or four best bowlers in the land and they get paid £1m every year to bowl so why don't they know where to land the ball and actually get the ball to land there.

It's a bit like highly paid footballers who make a mess of taking a corner

Not quite as straight forward as that. They do pitch it where they’re aiming about 90% of time. It’s mostly a tactical battle against a skilful world class batsman. The state of the wicket and the weather also have an impact on the way the ball behaves. It’s difficult to maintain if you’re bowling 20-25 overs in the day.

For the next test I’d get Foakes in for Vince and play Bairstow at 4 as a batsman. Foakes has a higher first class batting average then most of the top 6.

Cook
Stoneman
Root
Bairstow
Malan
Ali
Foakes
Woakes
Overton
Broad
Anderson

The Aussie batting lineup is nowhere near as strong as it used to be with only Warner and Smith perhaps deserving the "skilful world class" label

Yes I agree.
Khawaja is also decent.
But our bowlers do not exactly cover themselves with glory.

Conversely with regards to our batting attack one can predict the customary collapse so I have no confidence in us scoring enough runs.
