And the security services, special branch, the anti-terrorist unit, GCHQ etc. Its notable that these services have a pretty good record for preventing attacks, arresting and convicting people preparing attacks etc.

These also include people who are Muslim. They couldn't function without them. But its certainly down to the apparatus of state to police society.

No community or group in society can really be trusted to police itself, that's why we have police forces. People within a community group are likely blind to some degree to this responsibility to the greater society as a whole

We cannot even trust the Police to police the Muslim Communities.... look at Rotherham - where gangs of Muslim men (many taxi drivers) were allowed to abuse, traffick and rape young white girls from broken and care homes etc and the Police turned a blind eye to it, fearing they would upset the Muslim communities (who probably knew what was going on and also condoned it anyway) FFS.

No.

Well, that certainly came across as the implication. So what are you suggesting?

There's no ambiguity in the condemnation of the attack. There's just a statement following that maybe not all Muslims should be viewed as suspicious just because one carried out an attack.

If Nick is being ambiguous then as I said, many on this site and commenting at the time were similarly ambiguous in their condemnation of the Jo Cox murder.

A very selective example of Nick's posts if I may say so.

Who won't accept him, because he isn't a national of that country. Same as we wouldn't accept someone who isn't British, and being deported as a known terrorist because some other country says he's a threat.

Of course there is a very reasonable argument that anyone convicted of terrorist activities, should not be leaving custody, at least for as long as we have 'a war going on'. Which I do agree with. I don't believe they should be held in cruel conditions outside of legal recourse as the US seems to have been doing.

But they shouldn't be released back into society unless they can demonstrate a miscarriage of justice, or provide sufficient material support to the security services, proportional to their crimes.

Realistically, we are in a war. We should consider that during a war we don't just let 'captured enemy' out of prison.

Without doubt they should be incarcerated for the period of the conflict which, if we don't halt mass immigration, will be forever.

I'm not necessarily disagreeing but it was that specific post that caused hedgehog to make his comment so it is the only post that is relevant.

But you know what this really shouldn't be the tone of this debate given what's happened so I'll leave it there - I am sure we both agree it was an atrocity yesterday, no ifs and buts.

I do remember a lot of people though distancing him from things like Brexit and groups associated around that.

And rightly so.

Support for Brexit has nothing to do with murdering someone.
Or should we suspect all Brexit voters?
Probably only 0.4% of Brexiters are potential murderers don't you know. The others belong to another sect.

My attitude is to condemn all terrorist murderers and take all necessary steps to stop them in order to protect the people I care about.
Others would rather worry about the rights of complete strangers without whom, we would not have this problem in the first place.

They did call for their followers to do this sort of thing.

There are some in the media and activism who try to obfuscate on this issue to attempt to deflect away the religious connection onto one more akin to mental illness.

A point was well made however that they never appear to try this with Nazi supporters. One can be suspicious of the reasons for that.

Because its moronic, boorish and stupid.

Oh, plus it happened decades ago and its embarrassing. (To anyone with an IQ in 3 figures)
