Awful performance - especially Townsend who seems to have lost his pace and McCarthy who brings nothing to the side. Third time this season we've had no shots on target. Why only 8 subs? Where is Scott Banks or Kirby?

I have opined about this in recent months.

Last night was his first start since December and he really seemed short of match sharpness.

Some of you need help. Did you really expect to win that game? We lost 4nil to 4 of the best goals you will see in a single game all season. Sakho hadn’t played since god knows when, Townsend the same. Zaha injured early.

And playing the BEST team in club football.

No point in over reacting to this defeat. No matter who we played in our team it would have made no difference to the end result. They are several levels above our best team and indeed at 23 points ahead of every other team in the league. Why fans think we should have got something from this game is beyond me. Name one person in our squad who would get into their team . Just think about that and move on .COYP

It wasn't losing 4-0 to an exceptionally good side that upset me. I've seen enough of those and much worse. It just seemed as though we weren't capable of showing some fighting spirit and having a go in return. OK, if we had got too gung-ho, we might have lost 8-0 and we'd all be moaning in horror so it's hard to say which option was the worst. We were certainly hampered by quadruple whammy right from the start. 1. Wilf injury 2. Hennessy in goal 3. Ayew gifting them free kicks 4. Players who found it impossible to keep possession of the ball for more than a few seconds. That'll do for starters.

Townsend was responsible for their forth by setting them up when deep into their half and van Aanholt was out positioned again for their second, the other two goals no club in the world could have prevented although I will say the decision to award the freekick in the first place was dubious especially when considering how Ayew was bundled off the ball three times when in good positions and each time the ref just waved liverpool on ..the last time Ayew just spread his arms and legs out in annoyance!
Van Aanholt was excellent moving forward with good ball control and at times we showed glimpses of good crisp pass and movement but Liverpool were at their very best from the start with the intensity to kill off any team in this league, we had to be at our strongest throughout to upset them, we failed when Zaha limped off leaving Van Aarnholt null and void.

We purely lost because Liverpool didn't allow us any space to move anywhere at any time, all their players were too good for us, even the youngsters that came on at the end. It is very frustrating but the gap between us and them is quite large.

I note that Klopp said Hodgson was one of two coaches that he studied when starting his career.
He obviously did not study him too well in terms of methods employed as his Liverpool team could have won 7-0 yesterday and dominated from first to last.
Palace, however, became the first team in Premier history not to have a single touch in the opposition penalty area during a complete game.
Embarrassing, even if there were mitigating circumstances.

I made similar comments before the game. Buoyed by the Bournemouth result it's easy to get a bit carried away. Can't say I saw a 4-0 on the cards, but we definitely had our work cut out and when Zaha went off early it was as good as a right off.

Ayew is starting to become a bit of a cheat too. He always has the hard done by face on him. He rolls around pretending to be in agony and takes dives. This is rampant I know but the false dives and injuries are just too much in the game.
