Well after the excitement of signing a forward and a reasonable debut at Man City reality may have been on show last night . I really would prefer to see Wickham starting , at least hes one of ours .

I wasn't exactly excited to sign the bloke, but it would be unfair to judge him so early. MOTM against Man City and then largely absent last night. Two contrasting performances.

Surely anybody who knows anything about football can see from Man City game the guy has potential. Give him time and keep off his back, no sense in dragging him down. Good luck to CT from me.

Surely anyone who is going to play professional football, at any level in any position, can make something of a 1 on 1 when they have a 15 yard free run at goal? Let alone somebody who is supposedly a premier league striker?
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

He should've scored twice imo but at least he's in the position to do so. Benteke would've been nowhere near it.

I wasn't that impressed with him last night but I also remember Batshuayi not being that great at first and being in out of the team.

Every striker has had a sitter and missed, I think it’s too early to start demonising Tosun. Really? Are you new to these forums? I don't think players are ever allowed to mess up without people complaining about them being rubbish after. It's the Croydon mentality my friend. Edited by eddiqc (22 Jan 2020 1.37pm)

With Benteke I’d almost be more disappointed if he actually hit the target. I now find his consistency comforting. As for Tosun (and Wickham too) he has already displayed much more movement and threat than Benteke has for two seasons.
If you come to a fork in the road, take it. |

It was one of those horrible ones where he had far too much time and over-thought it - much like the chance that Wilf ballooned over vs Brighton. His finish vs Man City was instinctive, as was the excellent half volley he hit quickly with his weaker foot in the same game. Agree he wasn't that great last night (few were) however he's already doing enough for us to be showing him respect imo. He's running the channels, linking play nicely and causing defenders problems. He's also getting into positions where he can score - for a team that doesn't create chances that's pretty good. Not sure what the point in bringing Connor on was given we didn't put any high balls into the box / really pump it long...and the chances he had i feel Cenk would have probably atoned for his earlier miss by taking. My main concern is how we accommodate both him and Ayew, as i think they are largely meant to be setting out the same way. Ayew to the wing is not utilising him to his fullest, so think we need to try something more fluid. It's early days but i'm impressed with what I've seen so far given he's been at the club 4 days.

I recall a 'Raw' Ian Wright missing the target when his career was in its infancy.I don't believe I am demonising Tosun and subjecting him to dollops of ordure for that single miss, in fact I did assert that perhaps a defender running back on to the line had an impact. Not withstanding my comments, hitting the target is a minimum requirement - Solskjaer was an accomplished finisher who hit the target most times. In general terms, some strikers are instinctive one-touch finishers who are perhaps not at their best when running through on goal with a goalkeeper to beat.
