Stoneman just made 144.....Hey lets bring him back as well.....It's ridiculous. Ali's test record as a batsman/bowler is not good enough and with the Currans and Stokes we simply don't need another bits and pieces all rounder. We need dedicated batsman who can average over 40 and a spinner who can threaten overseas. Ali is neither of those things and he is a step backwards. Do you want some wing mirrors to help you back track a bit better? You said he was selected as a batsman, he wasn't. Pope, if anything, should have played instead of Bairstow due to his injury. Ali is the best off spin option the test side currently has. He comfortably out-bowled Ashwin in this test, in Indian like conditions.

Whoops just when we though the DRS was as perfect as you could wish for. The third umpire thinks that Kohli has bat on ball but its not, its bat on pad, and he survives, not out lbw. Surely the DRS camera angles would show the third umpire that? Gripping stuff haven't a clue myself altho most think England. For all the waiting around we endure when watching test cricket, for some of the stupidest or most pointless reasons, we end up with an impatient 3rd umpire who's job is to make the most crucial decisions. Everyone knew Kohli didn't hit that, except the one person who mattered. That could very easily have changed the result of the test. I also think they need to make a change to the DRS where the onfield umpire has to say to the bowling side that the batsman has played a shot, in their opinion.

Three of our fast bowling attack (Anderson, Broad and Stokes) bowl right handed but bat left handed. How common is this as I had always assumed that people were either left or right handed Quite a few lefties end up doing the odd thing here and there as a righty. I've got a mate who is left handed but plays snooker and pool right handed, amongst other things.

That's taking a 'bits and pieces' cricketer....who himself describes himaelf as a 'batsman who bowls' and selecting him instead of a batsman. England need specialist batsman and bowlers.....we have more than enough all rounders. Ali has had 51 tests and has a failed batsman average and a very poor overseas record as a spinner. If England are going to challenge for the top spot we need to win series overseas......Ali is not part of that solution. In one day cricket though, I'd say he plays a part for the next couple of years.

The score-line 3-1 in this series does rather flatter the hosts I think it is more even than that suggests. It was interesting to listen to commentators adjusting to the Kohli-Rahane partnership as it dawned on them that India could win. Why is there such a curse on the last innings? It must be mental, 96 to get with 6 wickets left and another day, should be quite possible, maybe it is just pressure. Yet Boycs and the analyst were adamant that India would not get them and they were correct.

The pitch was like a dust bowl and Ishant Sharma had been running onto the pitch creating rough for Moeen Ali to bowl into so survival was always going to be difficult

Read Root's statement again. Ali has described himself that way, past tense. Take a listen to his post match interviews. You keep talking about overseas but this is a series in England, and I'll take the opinion of people like Harbajhan over your's. You also keep referring to the last Ashes series which was an abomination for all involved and massively alters his bowling average. His averages in India indicate that he should be picked for the Sri Lanka tour.
