Our most exciting youngster, pre-Meyer. Not saying he'll ever cut it in the Premier League but it'd be foolish on Palace's behalf to cut him off already.

I prefer Wan-Bissaka

Why don’t you re read the post again instead of talking s***. He’s a 21 year old. Of course he’s not ready to replace Luka. We have absolutely no need to replace Luka at this point in time either. Stop trying to twist things.

Problem with you Rudi, is we’ve had debates before. Including on the FdB debacle. And you keep biting, but when someone lays it out for you on a plate and in detail, the only thing you can come back with is strawman nonsense.

You need to learn how to disagree with other people like an adult rather than resorting to playground antics when someone offers a well reasoned and balanced alternative to the position you’ve taken up. Usually because that’s the position most other people have taken up too, therefore you see it as gospel.

Only I’ve brought in what does he offer because he doesn’t and I can’t see him offering enough in any of the several positions discussed at this level. You don’t like that so you’re getting upset, chucking your toys out on the thread in general and can’t get your head around we’ll have surplus players in midfield vs very few faster forward players and an unfavoured by the manager who didn’t buy him midfielder bought for £8 mil sitting in the stands.

And if I remember rightly you sulked about Frank being sacked and were ok with us to get relegated so we’d somehow create this romantic footballing philosophy for decades to come with a complete ignorant and arrogant cvnt in charge who went against agreements when hired and alienated parts of the squad before recalling them.

Unfortunately football has become more and more short term but with Roy in charge we are building a faster foundation of a passing team going by tactics and dangerous moves last season and purchases this window and other players Roy is interested in like RLC, who again is that more difficult to pay for if we hang onto Riedewald, so no, I’m not the one being childish. And neither am I just agreeing with the masses. I was one of about 3 against hiring Frank. Something I proved months later with posts I made and a few people remembering it. If you’re going to be contrarian, at least be quite sure it’s for the good of cpfc because Riedewald has only a slim chance way into the future and we’re not Chelsea stockpiling potentials for years later.

In an ideal world, a loan move to Swansea would be perfect.

A chance to play a full season in an intense English league for a good team.

It remains to be seen quite how good he is, but if he was an academy/home-grown player I think the reaction to this potential move would be very different.

Our most exciting youngster, pre-Meyer. Not saying he'll ever cut it in the Premier League but it'd be foolish on Palace's behalf to cut him off already.

The thing is because of his background he’s worth a few quid and the wage savings of loaning him out aren’t that much in the scheme of things. About £35k per week I think.

Roy and Parish however will see it as stupid keeping hold of him if they can use the transfer money on quality signings that will play. Remember also there may be or probably is a getting ready for Zaha’s departure happening and that money and players who will be selected are better for the club than Riedewald who Roy may not believe will make it. He didn’t pick him yesterday after Riedewald wants to stay to fight for his place did he?

Same. Awesome. And a great attitude and temperament as well. Professional mentality.

Well AWB really made Roy's day and ours, that was a last throw having run out of fit defenders.

Keep them all, have too many rather than too few.

Maybe we would if we could afford not to have the money from his sale now or not get very much when it’s realised he won’t cut it in the Prem in however many years after paying his wages for nothing much.

Doesn't anyone think of transfer deals from the player's point of view any more?

It must be really tough for young fringe players hoping to break through in PL teams. I thought Riedewald played quite well against Reading and afterwards he was talking enthusiastically about playing in a DM role – presumably as cover for or alongside Milivojevic Can’t think this was without some discussion with the management. A few days later we sign Kouyate. Shortly after it appears he’s offered the opportunity to play in the Championship with a relegated side with an unproven manager and owners who seem prepared to sell off their better players. How suddenly high hopes can be dashed.

Yep, the whole of England came with the exact same rhetoric about Pep and his style of play for years. He got more points in England than he did with arguably the best team of all time in Spain. And if not certainly one of the best, with Messi, Xavi & Iniesta all in their prime. The English superiority, and the notion you can’t play a certain style in the Premier League is just this strange myth spouted by people who are so desperate to cling onto a football that doesn’t exist anymore. And people are actually starting to clock onto this, albeit agonisingly slowly.

I have no problem with us doing what we have to do. Or the deficiencies we have as a bottom half team that mean we need the “destroyer” type players in midfield. What I have a problem with is the proportion in which we seem to nearly always favour these type of players. It’s something I’ve ranted on here about many times, and it’s what I truly believe. Unless we re rig the balance of the squad in a more progressive fashion, in my opinion, we will be fighting relegation more often than not until a point in which we go down anyway. And because of our reluctance to adapt our philosophy, find it very hard to come back up.

For me the sale of Riedewald is the definition on undermining the type of progression we should be targeting. I don’t think it’s about the league he’s playing in at all, I think what he lacks in brute strength he makes up for in his reading of the game and could quite easily develop into an excellent anchor to a back 4. Regardless of the country he’s playing in.

As I said earlier, it’s a game of opinions. But I’m just stating the reasons why I’m personally disappointed we’ve deemed him surplus to requirements and would be even more disappointed to see him go.

People can have heated debates on this subject but the fact is the club are prepared to let him go and use him in an exchange for Ayew.
In central midfield he has Luka,Jimmy and the two players signed last week ahead of him.
There’s also Puncheon,Williams and young players like Kirby competing for a central midfield position in the unlikely event one is available
He won’t get an opportunity at full back or centre back either, so at best he is a fringe squad player.
He’s a good player but surplus to the current needs of the squad.

Excellent post.

No it is flawed he is not surplus we need talent and ability it is not easy to find.

To improve from the usual yearly struggle to keep in the Premier it needs more players of PL quality, fitness especially.

We have signed 2 lost 5 so far.

Interesting week in prospect!
