As i said earlier, this is what the majority believe but little has changed in practice since 1946, ie it still has shareholders.
The Treasury could easily print (from thin-air) it's own money, money that would come WITHOUT the debt, but for some reason it doesn't?

Oh dear Michael. You have entered the 'that's what you are stage' of your 'debating'. We have reached the limit of your ability to justify your guilt and hypocrisy.

I'll admit I take no prisoners with regard to responses to antagonists, but I never start the hostilities, and I'm civil and apologetic when I'm wrong.

But Gusset has been doing everybody's head in for over a decade and quite frankly I can't be arsed to respond directly to him anymore.

If Hrolf's assertion that you are his alter-ego proves to be true then you will join the list.

It does appear strange.. your leaping to his defence all the time?

No denial, I see.

How many people do you personally know well/are friends with that are immigrants? Any present experience beyond the London-based Spanish waitress, Australian bar worker or Thai massage by that 'well, she looked like a..' lady?

I know plenty even in darkest Devon.

Hrolf and Hoof do sound rather similar thinking about it and you two never argue a point.

Our first meeting on here was a fierce argument about the best guitarists which got pretty heated and abusive. Since then we've learned to tolerate our opinions which on a lot of topics are in harmony.

I think you and Matt_Himself are actually one and the same.... all this faux jousting with one another is fooling no one!

The electoral college works to require presidents to have broader appeal nationally than a simple popular vote would mean. I am as horrified by Trump's election as anyone but you cant argue that the outcome was undemocratic.

Now the UK system really is anti democratic......

But in doing so, undermines the influence of the people as a nation, to empower the artificial construct of states. Which is not democratic. Politicians should have to appeal to individuals.

So a vote in Ohio, is worth maybe twice that of someone in New York? Unsurprisingly its about retaining the power of agricultural areas and influences I'd imagine.

Grown ups are allowed to disagree eh Hoof.

Laughable how Gusset and Legal call you a "racist" and then expect you to be civil to them. Deluded.

But the alternative is to allow the larger populated areas to dominate. As we know from this country, opinion in large urban areas Like London is not necessarily representative and in the States that is a lot of big regions being ignored.

Apart from my wife, her family, two thirds of the team I work with, probably 50% of the guests at my wedding and the staff I managed when I lived & worked in Asia.

I hadn't forgotten that 'most of your friends are black', as you proudly told us.
