I would be surprised if Rangers can match our offer of money, maybe it's the glory or a longer contract? Possibly both (certainly the former) but also how likely he is to play as well? Geuhi will (presumably) play. Tomkins is fit again and should play. Kouyate could move back into the midfield of course, but equally, he could play at the back. A few on here seem to like the look of the young Australian lad the size of a small house from the u23s. Rangers have good centre backs (Goldson I like), but not sure what their strength in depth is at the back, and if they get into the group stages of the CL, they will have more game sot share around a smaller pool than us.

He’s 35 , spent a fair time injured last season, worth a punt at maybe 20k a week as a back up tbh now , would be like Defoe at rangers a bit part player just taking cash in a sub standard league…I guess he can add the Scottish league to his cabinet..

Not at all. He was offered what we thought he was worth. In my opinion his best playing days are well behind him although Cahill would have been useful for his experience when required. But that doesn't justify meeting his financial demands Totally agree - i like Cahill but he wasn't fast when we bought him 2 years ago and is clearly slower now. He's had a few injuries too and struggled in a few games last season when teams moved the ball quickly (Liverpool and Leeds spring to mind). With Tomkins' (and to a lesser extent Kelly's) injury record i would not be opposed to him re-signing for 1 more year but it has to be the right financial package for the club and a lower basic with some performance bonuses was clearly the way to go.
Can't see Rangers offering him more though - maybe a less demanding league and potential silverware makes some sense at his age. Edited by palace99 (22 Jul 2021 2.37pm)

Agreed Published figures may be out of course but his wages would be out of all proportion at Rangers - coming in as their highest earner possibly if I read Sportrac right. Looks a natural move for him but ... Originally posted by palace99
