Fulham have collected 4 pts from their last 2 games, both away, and there is every chance they could make it 7 pts from 3 games as they are at home to Sheff Utd at the weekend.

Their next game after Sheff Utd is against us, and should they have attained 7 games from their previous 3 games, they will be against team that in all likelihood had collected zero points from the previous 3 games.

Fulham weren't great last night, got a lucky goal and then Burnley took over and should have won it.
Maybe they have had their "purple patch" and will go back to abject performances now, who knows?

It is just as likely that we get something from the Brighton game, and then beat Fulham, only time will tell (if we can stand the test of time).

Sorry for the naff Van Halen reference!

As much as I am fed up with Hodgson, over a third of our first-team squad is out injured, including key players like Wilf, Tomkins and McArthur. If we got just those three players back we would probably find a way to pick up two or three more wins and some draws. As bad as we've been Roy has been unable to select the same back four for more than two games at a time this season and for a manager who is all about preparation and organisation that has been killer as Roy seemingly struggles to adapt to change.

Wilf is the one player who is obviously the most important beyond all others. Yes it is frustrating how much we rely on him, but psychologically it seems to affect not just our team when he plays but also the opposition. He can spend 89 minutes flapping his arms and pulling faces, but it is what he does in that one or two other minutes that is often the difference. If he comes back soon and stays fit we'll be fine. He must be desperate to be fit for Brighton as he seemingly is the one player who truly rises to the rivalry.

This season Newcastle seemingly don't win without Wilson, so they must be even more concerned given he's out until April and they are four points worse off than us. Burnley have lost Mee which is a huge blow as before they got the Tarkowski/Mee partnership back this season they hadn't won a single game. Brighton have a good squad and I imagine (as much as I hate to say it) will finish above us, although they still don't seem to be scoring many.

Personally, despite Fulham's mini revival, I think the current bottom three will go down. Fulham have only won one game since November, so for all the plaudits they are getting they just aren't getting the results, and Everton basically rolled over for them in that one win. I think they'll lose to Sheffield at the weekend too, who despite results will see this as a cup final - lose and they are almost certainly down. Fulham have failed to turn draws into wins against relegation rivals and if they don't get wins against Sheffield or us then their remaining fixtures look really tough. I'd be happy to take a point from them, but if Wilf is fit I think we'll take three.

So concludes this morning's essay!

1. Mee was following concussion protocols and had to miss last night's game against Fulham but my understanding is that he should return for the next game.

2. Wilson being out for several weeks is a significant blow for Newcastle.

3. I will be very surprised if Sheff Utd win at Fulham.
Apropos Fulham, after they play Sheff Utd,followed by us they then play away at Liverpool and home to Man C.

What sort of training? Would have thought gym work is what he'd do whilst his hamstring is still knackered.

He does fix quickly though, and the game isn't until Monday...

It was just strength work, conditioning and some stretches.

Mid term rehab and I would say he’s nowhere near squad ready for Monday.

Mick Mills mentioned this about Ipswich at the current time :

"When I look at that team I'm thinking where's the backbone? There's not even a finger bone."

Perhaps many of our supporters have similar thoughts about our team.

Ok, so not so bad then

Sheffield Utd are very capable of winning, but this season they seem equally capable of looking like a League One team. I just think they might bully a result out of Fulham. I hope they do anyway!

We can't rely on other teams to lose. The one thing we can do is make sure we play better. We need, arguably, nine more points from fourteen games to be safe. That'll have to be nine draws, then, as we couldn't buy a win playing as we did against Leeds and Brighton. Seriously, we'd lose at home to WBA playing as we have done.
Last night, Fulham asked far more questions of Burnley than we did. The problem is that the so-called 'easier' matches in the current run might be so if Zaha were available. He isn't, and by the time he's back, his presence won't be enough to make a difference anyway, given the opposition in the last two months.
Can we play better? Shuffling the limited resources at our disposal? Tactical changes? When was the last time a tactical change made a difference to the result?

A serious collection of bed wetters on this thread. No chance of us going down, in my opinion.

Jackson.. Wan Bissaka.... Sansom.. Nicholas.. Cannon.. Guehi.... Zaha... Thomas.. Byrne... Holton.. Rogers.. that should do it..

Gosh golly, you sound so tough!

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

If anyone on here has played football, then they will know that as you get older, you pick up more injuries, and takes longer to recover than when you started out playing. If you look at the published injury list now, most are muscle strains - no breaks or ACLs etc.

The problem we have with our aging squad is the same as last year - an injury crisis waiting to happen. This is compounded by our inability to plug the gaps with decent academy players as they transition to the first team - this is what Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs and United have all been able to do.
