We have started to refresh the squad with youth, albeit two years too late. Moreover its probably going to take another couple of years before we see a signifacnt drop in squad age.

The question is will we still be in the premiership while this happens. While fearing each upcomming season, the past suggests there are ususally 2, if not 3, teams that are evidently worse than us. Touch wood this will hold true going forward. And yes, like most of the premiership, i'm looking downwards not upwards... survival takes priority.

We brought in one of own, who put his faith in experienced players and tired n tested tactics to stablise a sinking ship. We have done this.

This short term measure is now evolving into a long term view. Although its too early to say whether he can take us forward with a younger squad, I am doubtful.

Sorloth left a broken man. Shorn of confidence, after being overlooked for a misfiring Benteke, he was given piecemeal oppotunities to deliver.

Alex Meyer showed creative glimpses of what he could do but didnt fit into The Hodgson Way. Now seemingly frozen out, again after being shorn of confidence, of team crying out for creativity in Wilf's absence.

Instead, we are offering another year's extension to Benteke. At least we know what we get for £100k a week here.

I hope Im proved wrong and Hodgson enables a succesful transition but like I said, I am doubtful

We really need to be addressing the issue of players out of contact in the summer during the January window.
To leave it to the summer would not make sense and would run the risk of a number of players leaving for free in the summer.
For those we have no intention of keeping it surely would be prudent to try and sell them and release some value in January.
That assumes we have adequate cover in their positions.
There are rumours we are in talks with Benteke and Jairo, but I’ve heard nothing about PVA, Townsend, Sakho, Dann, Cahill, Meyer and Guiata.
Doesn’t mean talks aren’t happening, but that’s a lot of players who need their futures resolved.
All these players have a value though which could potentially be lost if it’s all left until the summer when they could potentially walk for free.
I think Riedewald has time remaining on his contract but believe the others finish in the summer.
Some would think for example it would be throwing good money after bad to offer Benteke yet another contract.
But he still has a value in the market which would be lost if his contract runs down.
Should we try and find a buyer in January then?
This approach needs to be considered for the others too, and sooner rather than later.
We’re only a few weeks from January.

Those players cost roughly £100m to assemble and will cost £150m to replace.

Benteke's contract renewal isn't too bad considering an unproven replacement will be £20m on the same wage. Although I can see us signing Bats too.

We need to keep Benteke, Reidewald, Townsend and Guiata to avoid a hole in the first team.

Given Dann and Cahill's age I'd opt for keeping Sakho.

Would like to keep Meyer, but doubt he wants to stay, and we have a lot of poor midfielders.

I am questioning the rationale of extending the contract of a 30 year old striker who has constantly failed to deliver in front of goal season on season and rewarding his dismal and failed efforts with an extension to a lucrative contract.
He has scored just 6 PL goals since the start of the 2017-18 season and supporters just don't expect him to score anymore.

We will be a 'Laughing stock' in football if Benteke's contract is extended.

I will Boycott attending matches until the New Year if Benteke's contract is renewed. I urge others to follow.

Should have ditched him last time round. I truly believe that Sorloth could have amassed a greater total, Benteke is that useless! Talk of keeping him must be Stockholm Syndrome associated.

Serious questions will be asked.
Benteke offers precious little and he drains the club's finances.
Let us not forget his contract has already been extended and he has not delivered.

If ben went to Sheffield u or fulham he would bag up I'm sure. Ball in the box early from both.
Fulham have mitrovic and Sheffield have mcburnie.
Double those up and goals will flow.
Sadly our style doesnt allow him the chances.
Most strikers get 4 or 5 a game and pop 1 or 2 goals. He gets 2 chances a game and is expected to get a double. We use inverted wingers purely because if they come inside and shoot it's on their good foot. Who cares just get it in the box ffs.

Oliie Mcburie has no goals this season Mitrovic has 2 goals hardly prolific

Our next two signings should fit right in then.
