Good all round effort today ... thought Townsend and Kouyate played well. Eze looks very promising. Just twelve more wins and we're probably safe!

Great win, back to the 1-0 score lines that kept us up last year before lockdown , I think eze looks like a great edition could definitely be the next player for us to get into the senior England squad , one thing I was worried about is Jairo , is he injured because not even on the bench today?

From Roy:

“I think Jairo Riedewald’s injury is a muscle strain. Normally when we get a muscle strain it’s a grade three strain with tendon involved and it leaves people out for months. We don’t think it will keep Jairo out for quite so long.

Southampton had to attack after we scored, we just waited to kill them off because they kept leaving huge gaps for us to exploit, we should've easily scored another.

I was actually surprised by the stats as I thought we looked better than the stats suggested. I wouldn't exactly say we were great, but we weren't bad. You're right that we could have scored more - there were two big chances at least. However, the slight niggling thing for me is their two big chances. We could do with getting some of our defense back fit. So good to see quality in goal for us. Guaita was on his game.

I had the same thought. Definitely a disconnect between the stats and the game, if that makes sense.

I gather you don't like Schlupp as its the second time you have posted the same lie.
I watched the game and he certainly completed more than one pass to a team mate.

Agreed are these stats from the same source that claimed, in 1 game last season we had no touches in the opposition penalty area? That was proved to be inaccurate

First game of the season on the back of a dismal run just a few weeks ago and we beat Southampton and Ward-Prowse - a bit of a bogey team for us and a player I really dislike - what's not to like!
Bats still to start, Eze looked great from the little we saw and our makeshift defence did really well with Mitchell looking promising.
Guaita had a great game as well and got the points for us in the end with that last gasp save.
Good days work even if it wasn't pretty at times.

Looks like we are going to be relying on the same back 4 for a few more weeks. The major positive Kouyate has over the other centre backs is his pace.

You agree on what? That Jeff Schlupp tricked you into believing that he completed more than one pass in 81 minutes on a football pitch? That is the magic of Jeff Schlupp.

The stat is from the Opta stats who provide the official stats to the league.

Ridiculously good save from Guaita. Fantastic three points despite an underwhelming performance. Some promising glimpses from Eze and what has happened to VAR? Why are we not getting the side on lines for offside??? Is this just to make it even more wishy washy and less clear for the watching fans in order to eliminate the uproar when decisions are so marginal?!

In the commentary here in Malta they said that Saints only played one preseason game compared to our four. I think that lack of preparation showed. We looked very disciplined without the ball and although sloppy with our passing we continually looked a threat on the break while Saints often looked slow and bereft of ideas. A really strong defensive performance and generally a good team performance all round. Eze has shown in brief cameos that he will be able to take our attacking pay up a notch and we have Bats to add that killer instinct. We really needed the points as the next 3 games will be really tough.
