Originally posted by EddieMac Let’s be honest with ourselves we are blessed to be not fighting relegation.

With the lack of investment in the squad, the oldest squad in the division, 1 right back, basically no strikers. Our injuries list this season this year was horrific earlier on.

We are not ready for Europe so il take 12th place.

I agree with this. And especially given Zaha has done nothing all year. It's a miracle that we have 42 points, and this is the most comfortable position we've been in at this stage of the season in at least the past 5 years.

Kudos to Roy for that, and maybe some luck too.

That being said, I love Townsend and Luka, but it looks like they both belong on the bench. They contribute very little. I also would be happy not to see Meyer on again.

No idea why Riedewald can't get on the field. That baffles me.

2017 Feb. (Van Aanholt) Palace 1 - 0 Middlesboro
2018 Jan. (Sako) Palace 1 - 0 Burnley
2019 May (Batshuayi, Batshuayi, OG, Van Aanholt, Townsend) Palace 5 - 3 Bournemouth
2020 Feb. (Van Aanholt) Palace 1 - 0 Newcastle

One of the TV pundits said recently that Roy will always keep Palace up because he organises his team so well. Unfortunately he only plays with a 15 man squad so will never finish above half way either. The board have to decide if they’re happy with safety or want to aim higher. Now is the time to decide.

With an average age of 31 tonight we should forget Europe and play Mitchell Pierrick and Woods for the rest of the season and give guys like Riedewald and Meyer enough game time to decide whether they are good enough or not. If we don’t even Roy’s organisation might not be enough to keep us up next season.

Now can we stop any silly talk about Europe next season. With 28 goals from 32 games we should be grateful we're as far up the table as we are

Not our best tonight by a long shot. We should've gone at them but instead offered very little. The poor home performance strikes again.

Whatever happens in the close season an inventive centre midfield player is a must.
Oh - and a goalscorer of course!

There seems a good possibility that both Dyche and Howe will become available in the near future. Either will do for me if Parish wants the club to make progress otherwise we can look forward to another season of boring defensive football with no prospect of youngsters being given a chance.

Burnley we’re without their three strikers - Wood, Barnes and Rodriguez.
Gudjohnson and Hendricks were also absent from their midfield.
With this in mind can anyone explain why we largely played with 10 behind the ball in the first half as if we were playing Man City?
Ray Lewington has said in the past that Hodgson plays the same way regardless of the opposition but surely a case can be made for a change of approach when playing severely weakened opponents.
We had a strong back four against a lone striker in Vydra.
Do we really need three essentially defensive midfielders in such a game?
There’s a myth about Palace that we play with two pacy wingers who get around the back of opponents to create opportunities.
This may have been true in previous seasons but neither Townsend nor Zaha have shown such inclination this season.
Both spend most of their time knocking the ball back to Ward and PVA or into midfield.
Luka has been shocking this season and seems to be excused as he scored one good goal v Bournemouth.
With our appalling goal scoring record, in particular at home, we have done well to amass 42 points.
When the system is not working , as it clearly wasn’t yesterday, why not amend the tactics and use different players to try and ask Burnley different questions?
We are so predictable and once they went one up it seemed inevitable they would see the game out with Palace pursuing the same easy to read game plan.

Well the better team won on the night , but it should have been 0-0 , Guaita cost us a point.

The last two games highlights that we do miss Benteke.

Had he played and without Guaita error I think the result would have been reversed.

What a shower of S**t. Our aging team of prima donnas have shown they can barely manage 1 game a week and Roy clearly has a problem playing anyone close to his grandkids age who may offer a bit more energy. Our squad is a million miles away from competing in Europe and without some serious investment it would be a total embarrassment.

I agree. Ayew is not an out and out striker. We also need an upgrade big time time on Townsend, he offers absolutely nothing anymore.
