Just got home - cold and miserable!
Awful game, Rooney strolled it, two more injuries and our Captain out for 3 games.
Hodgson deserves all he gets after that pile of poo!
I accept our injury crisis and I don't mind not progressing this year but dear oh dear that was rock bottom awful!
We should be very worried about the next month or so!

We keep passing it around sideways and backwards because
no-one is moving into space and when they DO attempt a forward pass it is inevitably to a marked player who has to off-load in a hurry.

This happens time after time simply because we do not have someone confident and skilful enough to hold the ball, bring it forward and wait for some movement ahead.

A new striker ? Yes but a skilful midfield 'general' is also desperately needed.

Ronaldo would struggle with our hopeless midfield.

And, as an aside, would Guaita have saved Martin's shot?

I don't think so.

90 minutes of Wickham today showed that we need replacements up front. Service to him wasn’t (never is to anyone) good but he is way too slow and gave away unnecessary fouls. A loan / sale to a championship side would be for the best. Also Kelly now showing how weak he is at right back. Been okay as cover and of course is better in the middle when needed. He’s play going forward on the right is awful and never when in space plays a decent killer ball to the forwards. Need a right back replacement urgently and Ward when fit isn’t the answer. We need players especially in midfield that can break defenders down rather than playing it backwards/sideways nearly all match. Today again, playing against inferior opponents that’s what we did for most of the match. I guess that’s Hodgson’s way but it’s not good to watch. Might need to play that way in next two Matches though but I see trouble ahead if we don’t change the way we are playing and get some new players in?

Derby are not that bad especially with that Rooney raining balls left right and centre ..he is actually what we need lol, yes Kelly kept losing our pressure as did Meyer who was equally as bad with his control and especially so with his shielding of the ball (Riedewald please show him how it's done!) Wickham is just very rusty and to suggest otherwise is ridiculous.
Ward is a million times better in Kelly's place who is himself a million times better a bit more to the left.

Considering our injury list and game time for those in the firing line we have dodged a bullet albeit very sad for those of us who love a good old cup run.

I would like to have seen another couple of youngsters being given a start today on the assumption that a cup run was not a priority.

As it turned out the starting eleven was a lot stronger than I expected.

Which in turn suggests that the club were hoping for a go at the competition.

But...as others have pointed out, some of the players look in need of a rest. When there are no natural full backs and no Wilf or Townsend, we don't get behind the opposition. Wickham's fitness levels are woefully short of what is required at this level. And then the captain gets a totally unnecessary red card.

Put all that together and you have the dross we witnessed today.

Ayew was our shining light today, he tried running and puffing at their defence but they were able to regroup and organise in numbers because we telegraphed our every move ten minutes before we did it, we missed Zaha sooooooooooooooooooooo much.

Their goal. Reidewald refused to close down and tackle and Kelly - again - lost Martin!
Poor defending indeed.

Isn't there an obligation to field your strongest side? I accept that 'strongest' is subjective in this context but you can't just put a youth side out in an FA Cup tie.

Scousers seem to of had the right idea and could well be putting out a very strong Everton side.

No we keep passing it around like that because that is what has been told to do look at England under Roy even now they do the same thing it's all about keeping possession.

Yes I agree people are not moving into space but again if you are playing at this slow pace their isn't much space and out players don't have the intelligence to make or move (Rooney today showed how he still is on another level compared to all our players)

No another keeper would of of saved that shot it was poor defending from Kelly also Wayne was ball watching he should of been telling Kelly to pick the player up.

The problem is Roy and this system he has which is too strict.

Look back all the years in Prem at the styles Roy has switched to possession football as top priority not using the players we have strengths.

Today is another example why we need to invest in a decent striker desperately, RB and LB. Our lack of depth in the squad is alarming but our ability to change tactics when things aren't going our way is even more disturbing.
