I’m not saying I agree with just a yellow but Wilf still had a long way to go to bear down on goal.. it was probably this factor that made Atkinson decide on only a yellow.

The distance between the offence and the goal is one of the factors taken into consideration. It was a yellow card offence for me.

Wilf would have definitely passed the halfway with the ball first but this is irrelevant.
How can a 'rugby tackle' not be a straight red in a game of football including the last seconds of a game. 'Taking one for the team' usually means a sly trip, tug on shirt or blatent blocking. Players may as well 'rugby tackle' instead if only a yellow.
Straight red all day long.

This sums it up in a nutshell. The referee made a mistake. End of.

Arms looked round the neck to me. Definitely a red.

Refereeing in Football is rubbish.

Within the 'Laws' of the game it IS only a caution(yellow), it falls under the heading of 'Professional Foul' As I have highlighted in red. Used to be called 'Ungentlemanly Conduct'

Wilf was in his own half, there was no indication he would have been denied a 'clear goalscoring opportunity'. Guendouzi could've tripped/pulled Wilfs shirt or even blocked his run, it still would've ended up in a caution. As much as we hate it, MA acted within the laws of the game & correctly administered the caution.

Anyhoo, happy with the point. COYP

The laws were applied correctly but it was definitely a case of the punishment not fitting the crime.

Cant argue with that, but as a paying fan, the rules need looking at otherwise we may as well go to Twickenham to watch rugby. This kind of obvious violation to deny the fans the excitement of Zaha running half the pitch towards goal should be outlawed and given the heaviest penalty, a red card and automatic 3 game ban. That should stop it happening and give us back our moneys worth.

Whilst I do agree with you, since when has the FA/EPL & even clubs themselves ever cared what we the fans think or say?

Rugby tackle = yellow, but effective in stopping Wilf.
Anything stronger would have been violent conduct and got a red.

Agreed, as much as I don't like it, the tackle had almost no chance of causing injury, whereas if he would have slid and taken out his legs, it could have. I'm okay with the yellow, although it does annoy me.
