Moeen has done a fine job here and will be at the Oval on merit. Hoping for Woakes to be fit and any injured players to be rested this time. Openers I don't know as big scores from opening batsmen have dried up probably as wickets are not the flat batsmen friendly decks of old. I am sure the Rose Bowl was taking swing and spin from the first morning. Wouldn't be surprised to see Burns given an opportunity and Pope to return you really must give people a decent chance.

Probably because half of the County Championship games are played in April and May in very bowler friendly conditions as the ECB give precedence to 20 and 50 over cricket Originally posted by steeleye20
Hoping for Woakes to be fit and any injured players to be rested this time. The only injured player is likely to be Stokes and I can't see the selectors dropping him so if Woakes is going to play it could well be the peoples' hero Sam Curran who has to give way Originally posted by steeleye20

I've not seen Burns play but at the end of the day Keaton Jennings only got 36 in the second innings.Given that the series is won perhaps it is the right time to introduce Burns into the fray. Well done England for a brilliant victory after being 86-6 in the first innings.I did think that India would be able to get the runs in their second innings to secure victory.

The South African captain Smith had a weird technical set up....most balls pushed towards leg. If Burns doesn't get a chance now.....what's the point. Over a thousand runs in each of the last five seasons.

That was a great knock considering the circumstances. Sometimes greatness is bestowed far too easily. He was at the crease for over 2 hours but the stats will show he only scored 36 in his two innings in the test.Maybe the fact that England won will keep him in the team for the final test.

It has been a difficult series for opening batsmen with none of the openers from either side faring well. The bigger problem is number three as if Root isn't going to bat there who is?

Three of our fast bowling attack (Anderson, Broad and Stokes) bowl right handed but bat left handed. How common is this as I had always assumed that people were either left or right handed

Cook has retired, at the very least, a series too far. While he has damaged that once very impressive average with his intransigence I thank him for those years where he was genuinely up there with the world's most reliable batsman. This at least makes the winter test selection interesting. Edited by Stirlingsays (03 Sep 2018 1.27pm)
